Finasteride will the oily hair stop now iv'e quit

Hi everyone, EX USER OF FINASTERIDE FOR 3 MONTHS ONLY

Am new to this site and god i wish i found it before i started taking Prescription Finasteride 5mg.

Basically ive had some shedding but that’s not my main problem, the problem is the soaking wet through oily hair that i have only hours after washing with clarifying shampoo, also mega itching on the crown with some dandruff.

My hair is so greasy i am afraid to even go out without looking like a tramp.

I spoke to my GP 2 weeks ago and she said to stop taking it immediately without advising me to come off it slowly.

My Question is this :

Will the extreme oily hair stop now ive quit taking the finasteride?

Prior to taking finasteride i could go 3-4 days without washing my hair but within 3 weeks of starting this stuff my hair was so thin and oily.

Any help is greatly received.

Due to my circumstances i am due castration soon anyway so my DHT will be down to naff all.

I must say even though my finasteride is genuinely prescribed for me by a GP, i am shocked how damaging this crap really is and so readily available with a little bit of google work.

Thanks everyone.

I would recommend talking to your doctor, or a trichologist about this. They may be able to advise you.

If ‘oily hair’ is the only side effect you have experienced, then count yourself pretty lucky.
A lot of guys on this forum have serious health issues such as hypogonadism, cognitive/memory issues, insomnia, testicle pain just to name a few.

Hi thanks for your reply, i can appreciate others have more serious side effects of this stupid drug, as i have only been on this for around 3 months i also consider myself quite lucky to get off it early.

Thanks for your help, i will speak to my gp again about ramping down off this stuff.

In your initial post you said “Will the extreme oily hair stop now ive quit taking the finasteride?”

Yet in your latest reply you state “i will speak to my gp again about ramping down off this stuff.”

So which is it – are you still taking the drug or did you already quit? Most likely your issues will resolve if you get off the drug.

Just to clarify :

I have stopped taking this finasteride but i am worried that stopping 5mg straight away like i HAVE is too much to come off in one go.

Now when i wash my hair i am loosing well over 300 hairs and i am worried it’s because of a DHT Surge.

My GP seems clueless when it comes to my hair problems, and this is why i posted the question on this forum regarding my hair being really greasy.

I did not expect to be told ‘count yourself pretty lucky if that’s the only side effect’

I don’t think most people on here would be able to get access/funding to speak to a trichologist, and THIS is why i joined this site.

Thanks for your replys and sorry for any confusion on my part.

Thanks for clarifying.

Can anyone advise browny:
would it be best to taper off the drug gradually over the next few weeks, e.g. at a 1mg dose?
or stop completely?

I am not a doctor and therefore cannot advise you on this.

Personally if my hair started falling out i would take this as a good sign that things are returning to normal, however I would take things easy over the next few weeks/months. Don’t masturbate too much , or have too much sex as either could put excessive strain on your endocrine system and
you could end up worse off.

Avoid alcohol. Avoid prolonged/intensive excersie. Also google ‘paleo diet’ and think about changing your diet if you need to.

Hope this helps.
