Finasteride/Adrenal Fatigue and Antidepressants

.

Thanks for your post. I assume you will be undertaking further testing to assess the adrenal hormones? There is a chart in the “Hormones & Blood Tests” section that lists the Adrenal Steroid pathways – propeciahelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=518 . I would suggest testing for all of them. Also, one of the member of MesoRx forum, “Dr Marianco”, supposedly has treated a number of men for Adrenal Fatigue.

There is also a study on the effect of Fin on Adrenal Steroidogensis - andrologyjournal.org/cgi/reprint/15/4/298 . Though they state they found no evidence of Finasteride inhibiting Adrenal Steroidogenesis, they did find the following:

"Finasteride increased mean serum androstenedione levels by 17% (P = 0.10) and significantly increased the androstenedione to 17-hydroxyprogesterone ratio (P = 0.02 before ACTH and 0.05 after ACTH). These changes are most likely due to inhibition of androstenedione metabolism by 5a-reductase.

“… the corticosterone/deoxycorticosterone ratio was slightly increased with finasteride after ACTH stimulation…”

So I’d say you should definitely get the above tested for sure. Also, as for neurologists – if you are having muscle twitches/trembling/weakness and atrophy, I’d definitely consider getting an EMG done to rule out any possibility of neurodegenerative diseases, in case you are concerned.
