FDA Pulls Diabetes Drug Citing Increased Risk of Death

The Food and Drug Administration is pulling a Type 2 diabetes drug produced by AstraZeneca off the market after a new study shows it increases overall death rates in patients.

That study here:

So good to see the FDA taking action.

Better yet, the FDA is ALSO in the midst of a safety study on Onglyza’s competitor, Januvia, which is produced by…

(envelope please)

…Merck!

Wouldn’t that be a neat trick – to have the FDA pull Januvia off the market as well because it can cause death.

(Is you nervous yet, Kenneth C. Frazier? Is you ready for your Bill Cosby moment?)

Note from Fierce Biotech:

“The shoe yet to drop is an outcomes trial on Januvia, Merck’s ($MRK) top-selling DPP-4 treatment, which won’t be discussed at the committee meeting. Merck is expected to unveil results from that study, which has already concluded, at this summer’s American Diabetes Association meeting. And the stakes are high: If Januvia charts similarly alarming cardio signals, the whole class could lose billions in value, but if Merck’s drug comes through safely, it could get a major boost over its rivals.”

How much you wanna be that Merck is scrambling to cheat like a mofo – do whatEVER they can possible do – to rig the data so that it looks safer than it is?

The funny thing is, that is their whole modus operandi and not one staffer has any compunction about continuing to operate what is essentially a death camp.

Something needs to change.

Someone needs to go to jail.
