Fasting and Bone Health

One of my major symptoms was bone depletion. It’s gotten better but I would say I am at best 50% rebuilt from where I was. I would really like to do a fast but am concerned about the effect it will have on the health of my bones. Makes sense that they would cease rebuilding or reverse their progress over the course of a 2 week fast, since I wouldn’t be getting any nutrients whatsoever and I’d imagine my body would use the minerals in my bones for other purposes. I can handle losing a lot of muscle but if my bones were to backtrack, I’d be pretty devastated.

Does anyone have any experience/knowledge as concerns fasting and bone development/health?

Yeah its not good.

DO a juice feast instead

RIP douglas.

Does anyone else have any thoughts on this? Experience? My body adds muscle and bone girth by the day, so I’m hesitant to interrupt that. Same time I’d love to fast since I’m experiencing other symptoms to a high degree.

I think you’re vastly overestimating

  1. how much thicker your bones are from training

  2. how much minerals your body will take from your bones for a 2 week fast.

I doubt they’d lose any mass at all, or like a few grams at most (out of the X kg your skeleton weighs)

They’re thicker b/c of natural recovery, not training, but you’d be correct otherwise. And yeah you’re probably right a/b it not being consequential for my bones. Just paranoid b/c bone redevelopment has been very encouraging and made the other symptoms easier to endure.
