Facial Swelling

another side effect. My nose is really really thin and weak.
I am pretty sure it is because of fina which made my nose shrinked

I was think, childeren have a tiny nose and when they became a man, the nose is bigger and larger. Without dht the nose is shrinking.

anyone else with that side effect?

Men’s noses certainly grow as they age, along with ears, but this is really hard to judge unless you have definite shrinkage pictures…

This has never been documented or even heard of in regards to Finasteride or androgen deprivation, to my knowledge. It sounds completely unrelated.

Actually I have this too, as part of overall facial wasting. You wouldn’t notice it in pictures but my nose is thinner.

Do you guys think this could be partially due to water retention in the face putting your noses out of proportion? Or you’re sure it’s gotten narrower?

JN reported changes in facial features when taking different hormones such as HGH and DHT in his thread.

ugh, It’s threads like this that make it hard to be taken seriously

They are laughing at us on other forums because of this. “Hahaha, look at these clowns trying to blame anything and everything on fin”

I seriously doubt it could change the skeletal structure of parts of your face. Not to the point where it could be noticable anyway

Joetz, please don’t let the trolls get to you. They obviously don’t have a clue what we’re all going through, they don’t have a proper grasp of the science behind it, and they could probably care less about us. It’s not worth getting upset over those sorts of people.

thought this was a gag by the naysayers to see how many of us would jump and how high.

for the record, i haven’t noticed this effect.

Exactly. While it would be nice to attribute and blame all of one’s ails on Finasteride, both now and forever into the future, this is not realistic nor even plausible.

These are the common symptoms experienced by those suffering from PFS: propeciahelp.com/symptoms
The drug causes a hypogonadal state in many men who experience the Post-Finasteride Syndrome, leading primarily to severe sexual dysfunction (complete loss of libido, ED) as well as cognitive and certain physical issues, none of which have been reported to involve a “thin nose” (especially considering 5AR2 has not been found to be localized in nose cartilage).

To the original poster, do you have any studies to back up your claims about HOW a “thin nose” is even plausible, AFTER discontinuation? If not (and no offense), but such claims are simply conjecture/personal belief, and these types of posts do more to hurt our cause vs. help it.

I was wondering if I was not the only one. Maybe it due to something else.

I have a fat puffy face. maybe big cheeks make the nose appear thinner.

to joetz, nose is not about skeletal but cartilage

What I know, is that my face is different. I have less succes with girl than before fina.

This is clearer. Facial swelling is a known side effect of finasteride. However it’s not known that facial swelling persists after discontinuation from Merck’s product literature as far as I know.

I do agree that posts like this water down our cause here. FWIW, in psychology circles, a thin nose is associated with phallic issues. As in, people who think their nose is too thin or thinning often have issues with their virility, penis size, performance, etc. So in my opinion, this just gives extra credence to the “its in your head” commentary/diagnoses.

Right, and have you always been this way? When did these issues start happening? On drug and never resolved? Or after drug?

Compared to what timeframe?

Again, this is unrelated to the drug. Blaming the drug for your failures with women is not evidence of anything.

These types of comments do little but give others ammo to brand us as hypochondriacs for trying to blame Finasteride for every failure and health issue we may experience now or in the future, even though a defined set of symptoms have already been recognized by those suffering from the condition and increasingly, by the medical community: propeciahelp.com/symptoms

Please, think before you post and about what the consequences of such posts can be in terms of how people perceive this condition.

Looking through your past post history also reveals questionable comments, but I’m not going to say much else about it as I think I’ve made my point.

No, I took propecia 8 years and stop it 3 years ago.
2 Years before ending, I started to have a puffy face, and the problem is still there even worse

you can see my puffy face here

I am 32 now. Don’t have a man face but baby round face. I have big cheeks like a baby. people don’t believe me when I says I am 32 and think I am 25.

My face is not the same. I have always a sad expression, I can’t really smile ( like on that pic). I have a puffy face although I have only 15% of body fat.

Sorry for disturbing people. I don’t have bad intentions. I am like many guys here to try understand what happened and try to heal.
I think not all side effects have been mentionned. For example, we are a couple here to have lost our skin sensitivity.
this side effect is not mentionend in the symptom list although we can found it in other sites like raysahelian.com/finasteride.html

More frequent and less restricted urination is another one, the direct purpose of proscar. It’s not on the propecia side effect insert or this website’s list.

I’m going to say this once, because it isn’t the focal point of the PFS issue.

I have developed significant facial bone changes during my period of illness, and I look very noticeably different as a result. It has been a drastic and obvious change, and definitely not for the better. Do I believe that it is in part or full a contribution of the crippled health state Propecia left me in? 100% I do.

So, to be short Joe, your last sentence is wrong; I believe that to a degree beyond personal opinion, and I sympathize deeply with anyone else who describes a similar problem.

I think we need to be careful about what gets posted here because a lot of it undermines credibility, especially borderline hypochondriac stuff. If donni said “my face looks fat and swollen, which makes my nose look thin”, I think maybe then it wouldn’t have come across as sounding so ridiculous. Next thing you know he’s going to start a thread titled “I got a flat tire, damn you finasteride!!!”

I found this on another website mocking us over this post:

My worst fear is that some Merck lawyer is printing some of the more idiotic posts from here and brings the papers into a court room, puts a doctor on the stand and reads off the list of things that are easily discredited.

Reddit is full of trolls who will mock us regardless of what we say here. Medical facts cannot be discredited.

Nothing would cause me to lie about my illness’ symptoms on a forum meant for symptom discussion. It isn’t a focal point of mine for discussion here as I’ve said before, but it is a serious issue nonetheless, and I have no interest in keeping quiet just because someone else wants to doubt or belittle me.

3pm,

My IGF-1 is off the chart high. Since I am only 5’10" I’d think it wasn’t that high normally. I never tested prior to Fin but I can reasonably guess Fin may have caused this. Gigantism is basically super high levels of IGF-1. One of the symptoms is over growth of bone structure in the face. For example protruding cheek bones and chin. Google a pic of “Andre the Giant”. Dr. Jacobs has told me if I don’t get my levels down I could experience this side effect “over time”. I’ve only been dealing with this for about a year. I know you been been suffering for several years. How have your IGF-1 levels looked?

By the way, I agree with the other posts and doubt Finasteride has anything to do with thinning of the nose. High IGF-1 is a seperate issue.
