exercise-induced hypogonadism

here is a link to an interesting study on exercise-induced hypogonadism in male runners.

pubmedcentral.nih.gov/articl … id=1305090

also, there are several other links to other similar studies at the bottom of the page. worth reading for sure.

i know all the time i was on finasteride (1 year) i was doing some serious running. a few miles a day. and biking when i wasn’t running. and hiking and backpacking on the weekends. it was all part of my “if i’m losing my hair at least i’ll try and get in great shape” plan.

perhaps all the exercise increased the ill effects of finasteride on the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal axis.

I did not exercise at all while on fin. So I don’t think thats it.

right, okay. but, i’m not saying low-intensity high-volume exercise caused the problems, i’m only saying it has the potential to make things worse.

for instance, i did a few things very wrong during the year i was on fin.

  1. i took fin. ha.
  2. i jogged and biked constantly.
  3. ate a very restricted diet.
  4. stayed inside and out of sunlight for approx. 90% of the time. windowless office, dark house.
  5. got low quality sleep.

these things all contribute to poor endocrine health.

i see people here are trying to jog, bike, etc. to get their endocrine system back in shape, but according to these studies you could be doing more harm than good. there’s more evidence to point out that high-intensity and short duration weightlifting does more good for boosting testosterone.

anyways, people should read the studies. they’re only a couple paragraphs long each. and some even have info about how the athletes recovered from hypogonadism by using different therapies.
