Yes, I am extremely puzzled and upset that the drug didn’t have warnings about not using alcohol in excess etc etc. It makes no sense. This drug directly impacts the liver. Everything about the drug and that surrounds the drug is just unfathomable.
I dunno. I was straight edge before and while on Fin and I’m pretty F’ed up. No drugs, alcohol, or smoking. Don’t beat yourself up over it. Might not have made any difference.

I never smoked, never drank, never used drugs ( because of my religion). always used home made food. Have been very careful about my health yet I got worst sides from Saw palmetto. So I dont think any connection b/w fin and other stuff.
I don’t think it makes any difference. I think a lot of people here were driven to drink and do drugs after getting sick because the symptoms are so intolerable.
Sucks doesn’t it. Same thing with me-- I never drank, smoked, did any “illegal” drugs… always tried to do the right thing. What a crock of **** this life is.
i was at my parents house the summer i took it, where i didnt drink all summer. so i was not using any kind of drugs when i was on the drug.
The only drug I consumed was Propecia. Drinking or drug use might speed up the onset of the side effects from finasteride but abstaining did not prevent the effects.
Don’t bother second guessing this.
I drank stupid amounts on alcohol 3 weeks before I crashed, I did quite a few drugs as well, one of them well known for causing extreme anxiety on comedowns - I got them so bad, and I always do wonder if that helped push my system over the edge.
I normally don’t drink at all anymore. On Saturday night I was out with some friends. Of course one asked me if I wanted a drink and went to hand it to me. Instead of my normal, no response. I decided to have one.
I just had the one drink. The next day, I felt really run down. It took me like 3-4 hours to get going. I guess I’ll just deal with my friends wondering why I can’t have a couple of drinks with them anymore. The punishment isn’t worth it.
This is why I don’t drink at all.
I was a semi regular ecstasy user during finasteride use but still recovered at least two or three times (stock ran out and I wasn’t really paying attention). I never drank to excess all that much or ‘partied hard’. Given the amount of guys who take drugs and drink aged 18-40 we’d be hearing more about this as a possible link on the forum.
I did take coke and ecstasy a week after quitting and initially thought that as the insomnia set in before my crash, it was related to this drug use. I came across this site and stopped fin but didn’t dwell on it, just thought I’d recover, went out and got drunk as well a couple of times. Bad move.
This syndrome is in the most part a withdrawl syndrome, and if you don’t withdraw properly (slow ween and avoiding substances and stress) it can fuck you up a lot worse. That the prominent docs think this is a problem in the CNS or higher centres of the brain corroborates this, as people are careful about how they come off anti-depressants.

Is this your theory?
I put my body through a hell of a time when I was coming off finasteride so it wouldn’t surprise me. I know of a guy that’s been on Finasteride and now takes Dutasteride and he does a lot of drugs and alcohol.
