I had started taking finasteride (propecia) 1 mg last month (was on it for 6 weeks) after a leading dermatologist in town recommended it to me for MPB. He hadn’t mentioned any side effects and so I didn’t worry either. Till a week back I didn’t face any significant side effects as such but it started cascading about 7-8 days back. I just couldn’t masturbate anymore. My erections were gone. The situation is only turning worse with each day. My testicles seem to have grown smaller and the skin on the penis as well as the testicles has shrunk comprehensively. Realizing that I was getting the side effects I quit the drug 3 days back. I am really worried. I got in touch with my doctor who mentioned that the sides would go away once the DHT levels return to normal (which would take 1-2 week) but after going through the web and reading through numerous accounts of patients who have suffered, I am sure that he is just trying to save his face.

Please tell me if there is a chance that I will recover and go back to my normal self. I was about to get married soon and I am already feeling suicidal because of all this.

Please help.

Your sides are most probably due to lack of dht. Allopregnanolone levels are lowered, so you should reduce stress as much as possible till 5ar metabolities return to normal. Also, abstain from masturbation! (that’s how i crashed) because it releases stress hormones which could cause pfs. In a nutshell, as long as you don’t “crash” you have pretty good chances for recovery.

thanks johnny for the reply… unfortunately i did try and masturbate twice in the last 4 days (once on saturday and once on monday) just to ensure that I am ok (i was panicking)

I won’t do it anymore now that you have suggested… Can you let me know how long before I start seeing signs of an imporvement? Do i need to go and see a doctor?

Also can just 5-6 weeks of medicine cause permanent side effects??

@jhonny - what are the typical symptoms of a crash and does one recover from it? I see that you also took the poison for a months’s duration. Can you share your story?

Please somebody reply to my query…

It’s been 8 days now since i popped my last pill and there is no improvement whatsover in my penis and testis. The skin is completely wrinkled and my penis has shrunk to the point that i have to hold it to pee… It just faces downward (completely)… I have no erections at all… and yes the frequency of my urination is more than usual…

I know that the DHT level starts to shoot up by the end of a week but it’s already been a week and there is no improvement… Do i hope and if yes then how long before I know if there is any chance of a recovery… I know it’s important to stay calm but am way too depressed and crying almost all the time thinking of the irreversible scenario…

In God’s name please give me some hope somebody :frowning:

Give it some time

I would leave it 3 months to see if you get better, some do and some don’t

I’m 18 months of the fucking poison and I’m better mentally but my dick is still shrunken and numb with no improvements sexually at all

If anything maybe I’m worse sexually

There are guys here who took it for 1 week or less who are still suffering years later.

But try and stay calm, and see what happens over the next 3 months. You won’t help yourself by dwelling on something that may not even happen.
