ED only 1 year quitting finasteride

Hi guys !
I am from Portugal and discover this forum lately since i assume my ed problem.
I took finasteride (1,25mg/ day of Proscar) betwen 2001 and 2005 and never had erections problems.
I have 37 years and a endo made recently bood tests and told me that all was normal. Big problem is that no doctor believes in my story and thinks is all psicological…
This is finishing my life…

Thanks in advance for any help and congratulations to whom set up this forum

Hi Maracatu!

sorry to write you this late, and wellcome to this great website, hopefully we’ll find something to cure us or at least to relief the symptoms.
I quitted Propecia on 2004 and I went through really hard times, but at that time I didn’t think of this drug.
I think my body has gone (and it’s still going) through hormonal changes since Finasteride and post (Very High TSH, Estradiol etc) trying to get stabilized by ittself. My T levels are dropping and my Prolactin is very high.

My last thoughts are on Prolactin, I’m going to try to lower it, I think this could be the key to try to get a better Libido and hopefully stop my LH, FSH and Testo droppings.
Your Estradiol and Prolactin look high to me, maybe that’s why you might have the Libido issues. Hopefully you’ll find an endo that believes in Finasteride side effects. My endo in Madrid has told me that lots of her colleagues know about it and she thinks it may go off someday.

Wellcome and good luck!

Hey so you did quit finasteride and everything went back to normal?

It was just like me, I used fin then I quit and everything was back normal, then I used some dutasteride and everything returned normal when I quit. Then, after some time passed I started natural therapy based on isoflavons genistein. After two months with this stuff something happened and my libido did not return and I started having dry and sensitive skin… my endo said that the fact that I stared feeling bed relatively long after i quit these drugs and knowing that everything returned normal then, he is pretty sure it has nothing to do with these drugs. I am not sure but from the medical data I read lately it is truth, especialy due to the fact that, when I quit I returned normal.

He suspects that the problem might be neurological cause hormons look very good.

Good luck to all of us

Hi,

my endo also sent me to a LHRH test but I don’t find any laboratory doing this test any longer (so far) since I’ve been told that the product they use (Luforan) is not produced any more, and it looks there is no subtitute. She also sent me for a Spermogram.

Maracatu, did they tell you anything about your Prolactin, did you test for any Tyroid issues? such TSH, T3, T4?

Good luck

This is really strange especialy due to the fact that I honestly did recover from finasteride and dutasteride. The whole problem began much further. Half a year of something later. Now I feel most of the time as If my head was empty, like there was lack of neurons, androgens. I also feel weak in general.

I will talk to my uro about this but i am really giving up my life because of this shit…

Yes. Exactly. I did not have any problem after I stopped finasteride and dutasteride then. I recovered and was horny like crazy.
I did not like that I started loosing hair again and decided to start a "safe"natural treatment.

After a few times when I used genistein topical eveything got blocked immedietely when I sprayed it on my crown.

I felt lightheaded from that time with the little sensitivity all over my body. This is really crazy but it is true.

Soy isoflavon based topical fucked me permanently. As crazy as it sounds.

ii have a question 4u both: i just used propecia 1,5 years,i had sides and when i stopped i recovered, got horny for a period and after that something crashed and i become in the situation i m now.
so my question:is it possible that u had the same problem like me after stopping the drug (duta/fina)u recovered for a period, started the natural treatment and after like me,something crashed due to fina use…so it is due to fina that gave u the crash some time later…and not the natural treat .just a theory.

Finallyi find a doctor (endo) who recognizes that my problem is not psichological.
I receiveid my last blood tests made with a LHRh (ok) that shows the above results
Value References
Prolactina 10,1 ng 4,04 - 15,2
17-OH-Progesterona 2,0 ng 0,2 - 2,5
DHT 115,8 ng 250 - 1000
Estradiol (E2) 23,4 pg 7,63 - 42,6
Total Testosterone 5,1 ng 2,8 - 8,0
Free Testosterone 7,5 pg 13,0 - 40,0

So it is obvios the problems with DHT and free testo.
I was prescribed with arimidex (1mg / day) to low E2 and try to jump free testo. Will make another blood test in 2 months.

I looking for any person in Portugal with the same problem.

Best wishes for all of us

why did he prescribe u with anti E? your E2 isent even very high?

Seems like you need testosterone replacement, just my 2cents and im no doctor but if u are suffering from ed and sexual sides etc with a free t at only half of the lowest on the scale u would be a pretty good candidate for trt, no? Also why no shbg? U should ask for shbg on your next tests.

In addition to SHBG,

LH
FSH
TSH

… would all be recommended.

Updating

I did not have SHBG examined this time but always was low.
Last time (August/2008) it was 16,5 in range 13-71.

I dd not post the other parameters but i had it because made LHRH rest at the same time
LH = 4,9
FSH = 7,5
TSH = 3,11 range 0,27 - 4,2

My early (since 18/12/2008) experience with 1mg/day with arimidex:
I felt a litle more libido Sunday and achive a erection but not full and more soft. Altough it was enough for intercourse.
Yesterday i felt better libido which made me to take the iniciative for sex and i achieve a complete hard-on (like when i was on cialis…).
It is too early to take conclusions but even one is for real:

  • My problem is absolutely hormonal and estrogen / estradiol have an huge impact in this hell.
As you can see my estradiol is in range but even that way he plays a role.
It is a mystery why i have so low free testosterone and dht if i have a decent total testosterone ? And the problem is not SHbg or albumin… This is the big question for me now.
Today, more than ever i believe that the key is the free testosterone / estradiol ratio. One of the firts Urologists which i talked told me that but he prescibes me testogel who does not work in 3 weeks of use and i give up because concerns about fertility.

I am absolutely not cured but happy because i can figure the problem.
So i would like to left a message of hope to all of us and thank people who support and mantain this forum.

Merry Christmas.
