Is the recovery period/time going off of Dutasteride aka avodart worse or better than that of Propecia. I know half lifes are different for each etc but I wonder if there are any opionions on if it’s easier or more difficult to recover from in terms of side effects fading.
I stopped Avodart last week and am hoping the side effects, particularly the sexual ones fade quikcly.
Unknown. But owing to its longer half life, likely things will take that much longer to recover, as they theoretically should.
Dut is a dual inhibitor, there may be other mechanisms coming into play by its blocking of 5AR Type 1 which are not relevant, or have a different effect, on those who take it vs men who only inhibited 5AR-2 via Finasteride.
I do recall reading anecdotally on a hairloss forum of a former DUT user taking over a year to recover to his pre-Avodart state in terms of sexual side effects, after discontinuing the drug.
Wether there are the same type of claims of “permanent” side effects from Dutasteride as there are for Finasteride, I don’t know… its a newer drug, it may operate in a different manner than Finasteride (even though its a dual inhibitor), and not as many people have been taking it, for as long as Finasteride.
If you know of a “permanent” dutasteride side effects website, I’d be interested to read about it.
gadgetfreaky, you will probably be just fine. Don’t read into it too much. You just gotta be a little patient. Most people recover within a few months. You will be alright man!!
I actually have been on the avodart stuff probably longer than most. I got it right when it got FDA approval.
The interesting thing–and things I am worried about is it actually helped some other issues I had like 1) itchy scalp–probably from excess dht and 2) I had frequenty urination late at night. All those went away when I started on the stuff. However, the sexual side effects just are not worth it.
My hope is–those symptoms pre dht inhibitor do not come back while the sexual side effects recover quickly.
Try a good Saw Palmetto or prostate formula for your pre-dut urinary symptoms, if they are to return. Don’t take finasteride/dutasteride to save your life!
