Dry Skin

Anyone know how Finasteride causes dry skin ?

My skin has got so dry I can wear the same clothes for a week or more without the need to wash them.

I believe Propecia has similar properties to Accutane. The problem is, with Accutane, one takes it for some short period of time, like 4 weeks. But with Propecia, patients are supposed to take it forever–which is of course moronic and dangerous (i.e., typical of Merck and its CEO, Darth Frazier).

I took Accutane in my early 30s and had no problem at all with it. But then I took Propecia in my late 30s, for about 6 years, and even though I was only on a 1/2 dose (0.5mg) much of that time, it very slowly and steadily dried my skin to the point that I felt like I was mummifying.

It never dawned on my, however, that that side effect would be permanent.

Alas, it was.

So I have been in PFS hell these past 5 years trying to find remedies. The best thing I have so far is Kukui Oil, which is a natural seed oil from Hawaii, often used to treat eczema. That and limiting full showers to once every 3 days.

Also, if you do see a dermatologist, he/she may try giving you some topical steriod cream, particularly if your lips are painfully dry like mine are. But do NOT use that. Over time, it will only make things worse. Stick to natural treatments only. Other you can try are 100% pure cocoa butter, Makuna honey and pure glycerin.

dry sikin, dry eyes etc are due to low Testosterone or non-functioning testosterone (if you T is good). I am saying this because I am in contact with a guy whose T is very low due to high prolactine (400) because of his pitutary tumor. He has all of our symptoms. He never used propecia or accutane.

I too took accutane around 10 years ago, it dried my skin more so than finasteride. I am still suffering from it, and will be for the rest of my life. I think accutane is right there with finasteride, very dangerous drug. If u do a search for accutane and side-effects, you will find many the same as with finasteride.
My life would be so different if I just had stayed away from both these horrible drugs.

you took accutane and your skin went dry? what other sides you got from Accutane? looks like you did not get any sexual sides from Accutane? this is strange. I have been thinking dry skin, dry eyes and sexual sides come togather.

Spstriken, dry eyes, red dry skin, bloating, digestive issues, sexual sides are def from the same cause and all related. Cross your if fingers that the neurosteroid studies are published soon , it’s all neurological which also explains why TRT and estrogen blockers do very little. I have even had moments were my nose runs or clears for a second and I get an errection or more sensitivity down there. It’s all neurological people

Ive been off the drug for 6 months now but its only in the last week that my dry skin has got really bad.

Yup, 5 to 6 months my really dry skin (which def cycles) started. Also red flushing including penis…histamine

Dry skin seems to come and go for me has anyone else experienced this ?

5AR is expressed in skin tissue so it’s no surprise we wind up with this problem or to develop it while on Fin. I get dry skin blotching on my face, particularly in the summer months.

Have you got dry skin all the time or does it come and go ?

my dry skin is brutal and actually kind of uncomfortable … the best thing i have used is “kukui oil” from the “oils of aloha” website … if you have issues with dry skin and possible even rashes, this may bring some relief

And sebaceous glands regenerate.

My face is dry. Doesnt look healthy. Also its lost its shape and looks skinny. My hair is dry and weak. My beard is weakened. Hips are wider. Arms skinnny. Fat on body. Eyes are dry. Dark circles under eyes. Eyebrows even look weird now. Skinny hands and fingers. Didmt see any of this shit on the goddamn warning label.

welcome to the club. Hopefully we can figure this crap out.

I am also right at the 6 month mark. Just started noticing dryer skin. Also its getting cold which doesnt help. I want to move to a warmer location.
