Dry eye and propecia

Hello everyone. I have been on finasteride 5mg for about a year now. I’m 18 and i’m using it for my prostate. I have not had any sexual symptoms, but I developed dry eye syndrome a little while after starting it. The dry eyes have become worse and worse. I saw where finasteride can cause dry eye, and I was wondering if anyone here has dealt with that and was also wondering if once I’m off of it, will my eyes return to normal? Thank you for any responses

In my case they remain

I’m sorry for that. How bad is your dry eyes?

Guys do you still have dry eyes?

I took the pill for 15 days (only 9 pills) in total and quit almost 4 weeks ago. Started having dry eyes about two weeks ago. Hope once my androgen / estrogen balance is restored this will go away…

Yes the eyes improved but they are still pretty dry and exhaust easily

Hey M77,

I used to have all kinds of problems with my eyes thanks to this poison. Sensativity to light and wind, dry eyes. I was like a freak, I couldn’t look people in the eyes normally and feel that “real” visual connection. It was like my brain wasn’t linked to my eyes.

Anyway, good news is I never have any of the side effects any more. The final help with making the last of my symptoms go away was when I started taking Armour for my hypothroidism.

Now I can make casual glances at hot woman in the grocery store and not seem weird. Now I just need to get my unit to work properly.

Is there a medical term for this feeling. I seem to have this pretty bad. Stopped taking “p” 3-4 weeks ago…how long does this last?

Weirdfeeling, I’m unsure if there is a medical term for it. But looking back on it. I had these eye problems a week after taking this drug, So they were pretty much immediate. I would never have guessed this drug was causing it though. I thought my line of work at the time, long hours in front of a computer were the cause of it.

For me, it gradually went away. By about 6 months off I the sensativity to light and wind had gone away. It took me about a year for all of these eye related sides to go away. I think everyone’s different. User “Martin”, who chimed in on this thread has been off for more than a year and I believe he still has some remaining eye type issues.

Mew you keep telling us this is androgen deprovation problems which is fair enough because no doubt it is.
My question is, is there any hope for us, is there any potential treatments in the making or are we fucked for all our days?

My post was in response to people not understanding the mechanisms behind why they experienced dry eye from Finasteride. Finasteride is mentioned in teh research I just posted as causing the vision and eye issues mentioned in this thread.

With time, things tend to improve for many, self included. However, I’m not in a position to make claims about unknowns. I think as this issue gets more and more attention, the scientific community will begin to take notice and further investigation will hopefully take place.
