Dr. Patrick Magovern qualified at University College Dublin in 1980. After internship in Ireland, he went on to postgraduate training for general practice in the UK. In 1986, he moved to Canada working in general practice, wellness, pain management, nutritional medicine and acupuncture initially in Alberta followed by seven years in Vancouver, British Columbia.
Over the years, he has travelled extensively to develop clinical skills and knowledge including additional training with the American Academy of Environmental Medicine in the assessment and treatment of food and inhalant allergies, adrenal fatigue, nutritional medicine both oral and intravenous (including IV nutrient, vitamin and mineral protocols) which he now utilises in the treatment of his patients.
Dr. Magovern’s approach is to work in harmony with his patient’s biochemical individuality (each of us is biochemically unique). His approach incorporates conventional medicine, oral and intravenous nutrition, and bio-identical hormone therapy (BHRT – using hormones which are identical to those found in the human body). As well as a comprehensive history, he also uses appropriate laboratory tests including innovative techniques such as measuring salivary hormone levels.
Since 1992, he has worked extensively with patients who are finding it difficult to recover their health. Many patients may not have responded fully in the past to conventional medical treatment. In particular he is consulted by patients whose routine investigations have shown up nothing abnormal but the patient is still feeling awful for example those suffering from a general lack of energy including adrenal fatigue, thyroid, anxiety, mood or sleep problems.
He has additional training and experience in non-surgical cosmetics, and acupuncture so that his patients can benefit form a broad-based, rounded approach to medical practice; he also holds the Postgraduate Certificate in Nutritional Medicine from the University of Surrey. From 1994 to 2001 Dr. Magovern was a part-time clinical instructor with the University of California Los Angeles Continuing Medical Education Department.
He is on the Irish Medical Council Specialist Register and a member of the Irish College of General Practitioners.
