I’m not sure all publicity is good publicity. You also have to consider we’d really have no editorial control. Shame she’s such a loon really. I’ve been in contact with an author who has a blog and a weekly radio show. Anyone who has health related youtube channel or blog should be contacted. There are really thousands of stones to overturn.

Filing the lawsuit was only natural and was one of the first things I looked into when I figured out it was finasteride that had caused all these drastic sudden changes, didn’t take long to figure that out thou. Someone should have filed one years ago, look at how many things have spider-webbed since the lawsuit was filed… If most guys on here weren’t so goddamn gutless then maybe 70% of the people here wouldn’t BE HERE right now if they filed a lawsuit in the early 2000’s.
But no lets all handle things like we have a bomb on our backs that will explode with any jolt, thats got all of you really far in the past several years. Its pathetic really, nothing was EVER accomplished by meek actions (or inaction) people who take bold steps are the ones who make achievements and get things done like SA.
So all of you who disagree sit around, debating if its right to garner attention this way or that. Because you deserve this fate if you want to do nothing more than sit around and hope some 20 something kid on a computer is going to find a cure for us by looking up vaguely related scientific studies on the net.

As it turned out, i think you’ll agree, that in this case this publicity might have been more of a negative than a positive. However, perhaps you could find another outlet for this very content. I’ve no doubt Dr Irwig would partake in something with a little more credibility. I wonder could we organise something through ATM via Dr Crisler’s radio show (or whatever it’s called).
Oscar, have you ever ever once added anything around here? Because if you’re not part of the solution you’re really just a part of the problem. I think you need to channel your frustrations into helping us all. You’re clearly a smart guy (even if you, very bizarrely. don’t know the difference between “where” and “were”) and have a lot to add. All this in-fighting is rather tedious. Just put it in perspective for one second - we’re a bunch of guys fucked up by finasteride, arguing with each other. It doesn’t get us anywhere, and it’s a little embarrassing for the forum in general when you think about it.

That would be nice, I don’t know if the round table thing would get much attention outside of a specific health/medical tv program but thats the place to aim for and it would require a lot of cordination. Although now it seems some doctors and scientists are actually interested in the problem which I had hoped would occur, given its uniqueness among medical issues its definitely something that some scientists should be interested in. Now these scientists need to colaborate and really put some effort into the problem specifically… Irwig studied us from a purely symptomatic standpoint (as it would appear Traish did as well thou I have not read his study in full regarding any testing or analysis preformed), the italians are pretty much at the forefront now as they are actually digging into the biology behind what has occured to us and I am very very happy with them for it.
Irwig helped us by bringing attention to the issue in the US by interviewing our members, but the italians did (are doing) what we really need and went straight at the problem by trying to discover causation. If the samething could occur here; in the United States where we have many of the top research institutions in the world I would hope things could be uncovered more expediently. The fact that no US institution has attempted such work yet saddens and baffles me at the same time. This drug was invented in the US by a US company, this country’s medical community should be at the forefront of solving the problem instead of hesitating as it has.
Surely the premise of a report must be interview randy’s parents and SA, the main promoters of public actions corroborated by this “round table” discussion about new findings.

i know italians and irwig r in strict scientific contact and there is some of us here that is doing a lot behind the scenes, but we cant do much, only try to spread awarness.
Well maybe not just them, SA has been at the front of this lastest effort but there are several of us on here willing to speak out in public about the issue… location is my main issue as I’m living near the ass end of the country currently. It would be nice to get a room full of us and have them field questions around…
I am well aware, I have pointed this out before, the admins took a leadership role on this kind of defacto.
Yes, I have argued adamantly against this before. The secrets are silly and realistically pointless in MOST cases. I am NOW more aware myself of some of the things going on, somethings I will keep private out of respect for those who asked me to. But I will say much of this “inside” information that I am aware of is pretty inconsequential and not really earth shattering to any effect on our current status. I will say that there have been many time frames mentioned by admins on this site that certain things were suppose to occur by certain dates. These dates have come and gone and the things being worked on have yet to come into play. The money donation system being one. I feel that if there was less secrecy there could be more organization and things could and would occur faster.
For me and most everyone I think the main goal is to find a effect treatment/cure ASAP, with punishing Merck being secondary. Like most others on here, I don’t think there is any punishment the American legal system would bestow upon Merck that would fit what they have done to men, families and the families that will never exist as a result of their drug. But the hope of waking up one day not being like this, is the only thing I hold on to these days.
I do not know much about what Irwig is doing and I only spoke with him once last year and it was more in regards to potential treatments. I just generally got the idea from what he has done so far that he was taking things very slowly with just doing the symptomatic studies and survey type of things instead of diving right into the meat of the problem like the italians have done. Thank god for the italians, being italian-american myself it actually gives me a lot of pride to know that they are doing so much to help us all. I wish I had more direct intel from them about whats going on but even thou I did contribute to their studies they have been pretty hush (at least to me) about what has been uncovered. Any information about what has happened inside my body would be at least some weight off my shoulders at this point.
PS: Eariler this year about 5-6 months ago some pretty bold statements were made by Awor regarding information being released in the next 2-4 months and that this would be the “breakthrough” year for PFS. Well we are half-way through the year and besides now we know there are multiple studies underway… nothing has come out of it yet… that has been made aware to the vast majority of sufferers here on the forum at least. I give much credit to Awor for what he has done but I do not appreciate it when things that are stated to occur, do not occur. Maybe the time frames should never have been put forth in the first place… maybe its an effort to keep those who are at wits end hanging on. Either way its frustrating for many of us here, when months go by and nothing is heard. Small bi-weekly, or even monthly updates by Awor or another on the forum with access to the information would be helpful I think. It would keep members from drifting away and provide hope. Maybe this could be put into a email format and sent to all the forum members. Even a paragraph or so just giving the status of current PFS studies and efforts would be great, I think in that regard.
I agree with most of what you say as usual BP. It is somewhat tiring to read ‘watch this space’ about something then weeks/months later nothing appears, while meanwhile there is media coverage appearing that mew doesn’t even know about. The direction of this community is somewhat centralised and ‘top down’ which often breeds passivity and inertia.
Personally I don’t think we have even scratched the surface in what we can achieve with media coverage. I think back to the scandal about breast implants at the turn of the year that most in Europe will be familiar with. It was on the news for weeks and yet most of it was concerning precautionary warnings regarding leakage and breast cancer etc. Yet here we have men in their supposed prime becoming impotent and infertile, before we even talk about anything else, because they took a pill to stop hairloss which was originally designed for cancer. I’m sure the first thought s of many arriving here were, ‘Why haven’t I heard about this’?

Once the research is published, if it doesn’t keep getting pushed back, and assuming it finds clear evidence…then we will have all the media attention we want.
I guess until then its just a waiting and hoping game…
