Specialises in male hormones in Boston, recently wrote ‘Testosterone for Life’ which is supposed to be very good at debunking a lot of myths about TRT. Anyone had any experience of him?
I don’t, but have you read the book? Is it any good, if you have? I just searched for the book on Amazon and found it. The cover has guy who looks like he is in his sixties. It just makes me feel kind of sad for all of us when I think the majority of men dealing with this problem are probably in that age group.
I just read the first few pages on Amazon. It looks like an easy read and proably worth while for us. I wonder if there is actually anything in the book that most of us don’t already know.
Made me sad too. Haven’t read the book but it’s praised by Dr Goldstein and have seen people compare it favorably with Shippen’s ‘Testosterone Syndrome’.
Morgenthaler’s book is good in some areas, weak in others, for being a mid 2000’s publication date.
What I liked the most about it was the very concrete guidelines and illustrative comparisons for secondary hypogonadism. The guidelines are from the Society of Endocrinology. Shippen book was no as concrete in these areas but is an older text.
Where it was weak was in treatment. Mostly he is a proponent of topcial TRT, which in my case was of only moderate and sproradic help. He mentions a couple alternatives to TRT without much detail.
For physiological effects of testosterone, and a more complete but a little dated discussion of replacement (including HCG) and E/T ratio adjusting options, it is hard to beat Shippen’s book.
