I am searching some natural spices which can be anti-estrogenic and pro-endrogenic.

Anyone taking turmeric?

I tried it for a while but didn’t have any results. ymmv

Hi, can I just ask if you took a Turmeric supplement that contained 95% Curcurmin? That’s the active ingredient in turmeric and is responsible for all studied health benefits. Some Turmeric has 4% Curcurmin, as you would get from the root itself and that’s supposedly not enough to experience any benefits. Anyway, I’m going to try it once I track down a trustworthy brand.

and who you are?
I can not find your story?
your name suggest you are femal?

please share your story.

Yeah, I didn’t share my story yet. I was not sure if I am allowed and if it would be posted since I am female. I don’t want to be booed out for being a woman on this forum which is for men. I just read your stories and stuff, since it is the only forum that I have found where people describe the exact same symptoms as I have (but sexually a female version).

Might as well tell your story. If you’re concerned about an administrator not allowing it to be posted, you should PM Mew before you bother taking the time to type it up. I highly doubt anyone will hold anything against you for being a women with similar problems but you will probably get bombarded with questions about what experiencing the female equivalent of PFS is like.

Do a google search for “95 percent curcumin extract” and there are several sites claiming to sell the real deal.
I read that curcumin has low bioavailability unless taken in high doses, even in supplements containing a high concentration.

The Linus Pauling Institute was using dosages of up to 8g per day to study its cancer fighting properties and they reported that it was not detectable in blood in dosages less than 3.5g per day.

Unfortunately it was long ago and I no longer have the bottle. i think I bought it at GNC.

A while ago I tried a few months with Cucumin, Quercetin, Garlic, and Ginger with hopes that it would reduce inflammation and prostaglandin e2.

I noticed nothing at all.

Thank you for this information about turmeric!!!

I will post my story then (at some point this week).

So I have now found a place that sells the actual Turmeric Root, fresh. I bought a stock of it. I have a masticating juicer and decided to juice 100 grams per day for a month to see if it helps (unless I get an actual negative reaction). I would hope that 100,000 mg of fresh turmeric would contain enough Curcurmin. I read that absorption improves with Piperine and a medium chained oil, so I’ll take it together with Black Pepper and Virgin Coconut Oil. I don’t think it will cure anything but anything that helps me function, I welcome.

Hey Maria, What particular health benefits you are looking for in tumeric?

I was thinking of trying curcumin extract back when the “demethylating agents” thread was still a big deal, but never got around to buying any, and quite frankly, I’m sick of trying anymore supplements because none of them seem to work.

Now I’m finding out that there are tons of other supposed health benefits from turmeric.

Hi Maria
I think you have got sides from Accutane. I have seen a lot of posts by girls about accutane sides.

Hi Dubya_B, yes, I was mainly looking for a boost in energy and motivation. I read it has that effect on some people. But I am really interested in all of it’s benefits, like for example antioxidants. I tried juicing Chinese turmeric that I bought in China Town here in London. I juice a lot and can immediately tell if something is not organic. The turmeric tasted as if they were drenched in pesticides, so I stopped juicing them after 2 days. Supposedly they use a lot of pesticides in China… So I want to try to find a good quality turmeric supplement and try it.

Hi, yes, I think so too. The thing is that I have not seen any other Accutane sufferer who has had the exact profile of symptoms as I do. Only the guys on this forum display EXACTLY the same symptoms as me when it comes to everything else, aside from the sexual aspect.

I hate to be intrusive but just have to ask, In your profile you say your side effects started 10 years after you took accutane, specifically after taking a high dose of estradiol. Did the estradiol just worsen existing symptoms from that were caused by accutane?

I happen to be one of the few guys on here who took accutane and have a more “PFS-like” symptom profile than what is often seen in accutane victims. There are many of us out there, just go to acne.org and look-up “accutane sexual dysfunction”. There are quite a few of us with the emotional blunting/loss of libido/ loss of sensitivity/brain fog/changes in genital physical characteristics and function/ect… Some of us also experienced the “crash” soon after quitting. There are also a few women on that board who complain of what could be considered the female equivilant of PFS.

anyways…

There is a Whole Foods Grocer in London: http://www.urbanpath.com/london/organic/whole-foods-market.htm
If it is anything like the Whole Foods stores in America, you should be able to find fresh, organic, pesticide-free tumeric root there.

There is also something called C3 complex: http://www.curcuminoids.com/
If anyone is looking for a legitimate curcumin supplement, it is supposedly the same extract that was used in some of the clinical trials. Looks like it is sold in bulk to various supplement companies who put it in their own capsules (often combined with piperine). Capsules containing the C3 complex at 750-1000mg per capsule were recommended in most of the “What curcumin supplement should I buy?” discussions that I could find on cancer treatment related websites.

Good news is that I couldn’t find anyone complaining of sexual problems from taking curcumin, but I didn’t really look that hard.

The bad news is that there are people claiming something in curcumin acts as a 5 alpha reductase inhibitor of either type I, type II, or both, because it apparently has a positive effect on both androgenic-alopecia and acne. I couldn’t find anything concrete to back this up though, so I guess they are just making assumptions based on its effects?

On the other hand, there were several studies that showed curcumin causes degradation of the androgen receptor.
I’d personally rather steer clear of taking it until I knew more about it.

Thank you for your message!!! Sorry, I am working on writing my story and post it here but given that I can’t focus for more than 1 second it takes me forever.

No, actually, I took Accutane 10 years ago and didn’t have a problem with it. When I was on it I had the regular dry skin and also some anxiety but that’s it. I had some lasting side effects that presented themselves right after I quit, but which I have only realized in retrospect: really bad floaters, horrible night vision, felt exhausted more easily, high cholesterol (I eat very healthy), alcohol intolerance and my urine changed color to become permanently darker (liver, kidneys?). Also my normal super healthy 28 days menstrual cycle changed permanently, became very clotty, light and went from lasting for the average 3 days to only 1.5 days.

Then, when I took high dose Estrogen 2.5 years ago (only for 3 weeks as a routine treatment following a minor uterine surgery), I immediately developed the array of symptoms everybody here is talking about. Life wrecking stuff. The doctor who gave it to me said that in his 40 years as a (high profile) doctor, he’d never heard of such a thing.

Thank you for the information about the Turmeric supplements. I have not been able to find a brand that I trust yet, so what you mention sounds really good. But I get a bit reluctant to try it now as well… I have actually checked for organic Turmeric in Whole Foods here in London but they didn’t carry it. I lived in California (LA) for 12 years so I know US Whole Foods. I used to shop there daily. Love love love that store. But, the US Whole Foods has a supply of organic veggies and other products that can’t even be compared to the stores in London. Whole Foods in London are miniature versions of Whole Foods in the States.

Maybe accutane suppressed or saturated your androgen receptors and then your high does Esrogen further deteriorated these receptors, just a theory.
Last question. Do you feel your sides are getting worse over time especially after using Estrogen therapy?

thanks
