Since I ‘crashed’ and the finasteride side effects got bad, every night before I go to sleep I will close my eyes, almost get there and all of the sudden go dizzy and get jolts, and get this uncomfortable feeling in my head that sometimes travels through my body. At the same time my heart will start racing as if I went into some sort of nightmare or something. In the evening and often in the morning too, I will ache, and I can feel something throughout my circulation - I will get the odd muscle twitch which makes a part of my body jolt suddenly - often my leg, beneath my pecs will feel heavy and fibrous. These physical side effects are really scaring me, I think Insomnia is starting to get bad as well. The doctor’s been pretty useless so far, I have no idea where to turn.
I was, or am, having the same symptoms as you described. The heart racing and the twitches seem to be caused by severe anxiety. I have no idea why it happens before bed, but I think perhaps it happens all day long and we just don’t realize it until we are in a quiet area with nothing to pay attention to but our bodies. I am taking magnesium to help me sleep and vitamin D for the anxiety, both work well for me. You mention your circulation…I would get that checked if I were you, to be sure it’s not just anxiety.
If it is just anxiety, I recommend exercise and deep breathing techniques.
Yeah it’s a big symptom of anxiety, and although I deny a lot of anxiety is can be powerful and subconcious. Thanks for the reply.
Always at night. hour or so after falling asleep. BAM! I wake up! I had the heart race - viens popping out and sometimes red chest and hands tingling. BP 200 over 160. 2 times it was bad enough to go to ER even After I stopped FIN. I cut down on suger and caffine and this seemed to help. I stopped Rogaine and Nizeral and it has not returned since…i cant be sure if there was a connection. Any of you still using rogain? im not trying to shift the blame away from FIN. just noticed some things got a bit better after quitting the other 2 of “the big three”
went to cardiologist and he sugested that these thing may in fact hapen during the day but go unnoticed (as has been suggested here) i think i would notice these though.
i also was drinking sports-speedy drinks alot at one point.
Yeah, I stopped drinking sports drinks too. The sodium content in those things isn’t good for blood pressure, whereas just plain water has a beneficial effect. Also, you will want to cut out anything with caffeine which includes tea, coffee, and most carbonated drinks. I know it’s hard but those definitely had a bad effect on me. Try to go for a walk or do other cardio for about 30 minutes a day. Watch your sodium intake (college guys do NOT eat instant noodles, those things have like 2000mg of sodium!), and try to eat heart healthy foods like fish.
Actually, the main reason I stopped fin was because of what it was doing to my heart. My blood pressure would skyrocket, my heart would start racing, I would be short on oxygen, and my anxiety would go up which was only exacerbated by the belief I was having a heart attack. I couldn’t sleep sometimes because I would be jolted from bed by powerful anxiety attacks. I wore a heart monitor twice and had a sonogram done on my heart, both of which showed that technically there was nothing wrong with me. But I knew something was wrong because I couldn’t do anything remotely strenuous (like going up a small flight of stairs) without getting winded. I literally thought I could drop dead at anytime.
But after I started the aforementioned regimen my condition improved greatly. I have gone from not being able to walk up 10 steps without having chest pains to being able to hike up steep mountains with relative ease. Take it from a guy with experience.
