It took me several specialists all of them disregarded it. My girlfriends housemate is a a nurse and got me an endo from her hospital which helped and he believed me. To be honest there’s not a hell of a lot they can do, there no magic bullet as of yet. I recommend getting blood and siliva tests done which mew has listed on the front page. The best things to do is to present your bloods prior and post to taking finasteride. As for physiological symptoms they may seem rediculosly obvious to you like shrinkage etc, but to them you can still urinate so it doesn’t matter to them, most doctors are not researchers all they know is the information they are given ‘Has to be right, right?’. The worse thing you can do is be over-drammatic, approach the doctor and tell him your symptoms as it is easy to be seen as psychosymatic “my penis has shrunk and i’m depressed”. Go in calm and show concern, let them be the expert.
I wasted 600 on two urologists for them to go “YOUR 21 mate your at the top of your game, it’s all in your head” and the other one to tell me “Keep using viagra, it’s all psychosymatic”.
Your best bet is a endocrinolgist though please don’t disregard urologist if you are having major problems.
All of them. Mostly for legal reasons. As it turns out, my internist was hands down the best.
I don’t see how any could be dismissive anymore, with all the media and studies being published. As far as treatment option goes, they haven’t been able to help much.
Second, I imagine I already know the answer to this but will my case be considerably less believable if I’ve only been to one family doctor and two urologists for help with this condition? I got burnt out the last time I went to my urologist when he insisted I get an MRI of my pituitary before I continued on with him. I’ve since abandoned visiting doctors as most of them do not care to actually assist us in our pursuit of better health. Should I consider going to either an endocrinologist or an internist to help bolster my case? Or should I not be too concerned about this? I know I can and should ask my lawyer but I appreciate your knowledge and had no idea that that would be of any concern, even though it makes perfect sense.
I’ll preface my answer by saying I am not a lawyer. I’ll just make an if I were you case. If I were you, I would followup with doctors every few months or so and have them write down that you are still suffering from Propecia side effects. Merck can always say, “if the side effects didn’t go away, why didn’t you follow up with your doctor?” Also, some doctors might try to put you on anti-depressants. If you refuse, Merck can say that you “denied treatment.” Make sure you speak with your law firm about these issues.
It is probable “if” the root cause is found for PFS linking it directly to finasteride use that all of Merck’s counter arguements would be effectively squashed. At that point the only thing for them to resonably do (financially) would be to settle the cases. Even if they win a few of them, the legal fees for trying to defend so many cases would cost them far more than even a settlement costing them a few billion dollars.
