Hello all…
I am new to this forum.
I’m only 20 years old… and my livelihood has been robbed from me.
Although it was not from propecia… It was from taking supplements of Saw Palmetto.
Which virtually does the same thing.
Anyways…
Ahem
My friend… Who has been taking SSRI antidepressants for years now… and in fairly high doses, has quit his drugs due to the horrible side effects they gave him.
He has been experiencing pretty much the same thing we are all experiencing.
Low libido, Impotence, Thin Ejaculate, Anxiety, Restlessness and the inability to sleep, severe mind fog.
Despite quitting the SSRI, all these side effects have continued for him.
In fact, they have gotten worse.
I took to the internet for answers to his problem… In hopes of helping him and possibly myself.
And apparently… It is very common to have sexual side-effects while on SSRI drugs.
Why this happens is that Serotonin in the brain is stopped from being taken back into the brain like it normally would.
(Serotonin Uptake inhibition)
Sorry if I can’t word this all right… I’m a little dazed and confused.
Anyways… Serotonin levels go up… past the point they naturally would be… And this pushes Dopamine down.
Dopamine is important for sexual function… You cannot function sexually without adequate levels of Dopamine.
And Serotonin… Suppresses sexual function when it gets higher than Dopamine.
This explains what is wrong with my friend… If somehow his Serotonin were suppressed and his dopamine levels raised… He may recover from his symptoms.
But why do his symptoms remain after quitting the SSRI?
Why hasn’t his Dopamine come back up and his serotonin down?
That is what we don’t know…
ANYWAYS.
My theory is that Finasteride acts somehow as a very strong antidepressant.
Increasing serotonin past its natural levels…
And that for some reason, our Dopamine levels are down regulated.
Most of us would agree that we felt very well while on the drug.
Right?
And when coming off… Experienced anxiety and panic attacks which are reported by people coming off antidepressants.
Think about it…
Let me know what you think.
