Debunking progesterone cream

In this study alcoholics, people who had raised their allopregnanalone levels through consumption of alcohol, had levels lower than the control group once they stopped drinking.

What stands out in my mind here is the fact that allopregnanolone levels equivalent to the control were, in fact, eventually reestablished. “…ALLO and THDOC plasma levels did not differ from those of control subjects during the late withdrawal phase when anxiety and depression scores were low.”

In other words, in this group at least, allopregnanonlone biosynthesis returned to normal on its own and without a hitch.

My thought here is that progesterone cream would only seem to be a “cure” for finasteride side effects simply due to the fact that it would enhance GABAA. It would add to GABAergic tone in the same way that, say, alcohol might, causing a sedative, relaxed feeling related to swinging the GABAA balance artificially in the opposite direction.[/i]
