Dark Urine

I only drink water and my urine is still dark sometimes? Does anyone have any insights?

Thanks,
Josh

Yes. It’s not what you drink that will determine how dark your urine is. Dark urine probably means your urine is to concentrated. Try drinking more water to dilute your blood and urine. At least 8 glasses a day and preferably more at this time to make sure everythings working.

When you say dark are you referencing Yellow? I’ve read on several forums if you are taking Multivitamins with high amounts of B vitamins, the dark yellow is your body excreting the excess vitamin from your system.

If you’re not taking any vitamins…than the dark urine is probably due to dehydration. Make sure you are drinking at least 100 oz water/day. It may very well go away.

Are you taking DIM? That makes your urine go very dark.

No, I think I just didn’t drink enough water.

it’s odd how dehydration causes urine to darken…then when 64oz later it starts to clear up. dehydration also takes a toll on your bowel movements…causing constipation.

Did your dark urine ever clear up with drinking more water?

My urine turns more clear when I drink more water, but generally when it is dark it tends to be more brownish than in the past (where it would be more of a dark yellow); I notice this is the case whether or not I take DIM (which I HAVE taken, and sometimes seems to help… but not lately)

What is kind of scary is that a LOT of symptoms on here can be directly attributable (potentially) to liver disease or cancer:

  • “brain fog” - changes in mood, memory, mental confusion (due to hepatic encephalopathy)
  • dark urine (due to reduced or stopped bile flow)
  • increased estrogen (because the liver plays a role in metabolizing it)
  • anxiety / panic attacks (potentially due to the increased estrogen)
  • dry eyes (can also be caused by excess estrogen)

The doctors seem certain I do not have any liver problems (although my enzymes - AFT/ALT and CKI - were twice as high as the upper limit when I went to the ER for a “panic attack”) but I plan on pursuing it some more – they have not done any ultrasounds/CT/biopsy. Ideally I would like to run the whole gamut until I figure out what is wrong… starting with the liver but going to the gall bladder, kidneys, and prostate until I find out what is abnormal. I’m certain something is, but I’m not wealthy so I can’t force them to keep testing me until they find out…

I am concerned because… I thought I was getting better… but now (16 months after stopping finasteride), I feel pretty much worse than ever. I can’t sleep at night because I feel like if I do, I will never wake up. Sometimes as soon as I fall asleep, my heart feels like it stops or skips a beat, so I wake up suddenly. My brain also feels like it is just degenerating… like I am becoming mentally insane or retarded.

Generally I feel okay - even good - when I wake up in the morning. By the time 10:30 or midnight rolls around, I feel like I am going to die. I think this leads me to believe that I am not actually (I hope) having heart problems but that I am having brain/nervous-system problems… and that it’s likely hormone-related (since T/E ratio changes in men as the day goes on, then replenishes/balances when you sleep), so that’s a somewhat reassuring conclusion.

But I do have a feeling that by taking Propecia, we took YEARS off of our lifespans. My guess would be at least 10 years. I just hope it’s not much more than that.
