This is my first post here. I’ve browsed this site before and really felt sorry for the people who have had major side effects. I no longer use propecia but didn’t experience the level of side effects some people on here have gone through. That being said I never really got my old self back after going off it. My stomach wasn’t as flat and my face was a little puffy. Sex drive was okay. I’ve done alot of research on this topic in an attempt to unravel why propecia can have the impact it does. I may have found the answer.
DHT is an antagonist to estrogen. Since Propecia reduces DHT- the result is an increase in estrogen. Too much estrogen is not good for the thyroid. Execess estrogen can disable the thyroid or severely reduce its ability to function. Ofcourse the thyroid is responsible for metabolism and also has a big part in sex drive. Low thyroid function also causes brain fog. Sound familiar? I have read that blood tests many times do not detect a thyroid problem when one indeed exists. There are technical reasons for this- too in depth for this post. I decided I was going to do a little experimenting. I didn’t want to see a doctor because I wasn’t about to argue with an MD about something they may not agree with. So I ordered Cytomel from an online pharmacy. Cytomel is T3 which is the thyroid hormone that is ready to use in the body- the synthetic version. Generally speaking T4 (synthroid) is what the thyroid makes naturally which then has to be converted to T3 for the body to use. T3 is the much more effective hormone. So I finally obtain the cytomel in the mail. The starting dose is 25 mcg but a person can take up to 100 mcg per day but you have to work up to that amount. It’s not childs play. So I take one pill which is 25 mcg the next morning. From day 1 I could tell a difference. Almost like magic my old self is back. When I eat my stomach is not bloated. My facial structure has returned- no more bloating or puffiness. My lady friend asked if I was on viagra. That was the first day. It’s gotten better since then. What’s more is that I’m still taking just the 25 mcg in the morning every day. Maybe propecia totally messed up the thyroid for some of you. For me it was noticeable but not catastrophic. Cytomel gives me zero undesirable side effects. People who have had thyroid cancer and have their thyroid removed have to take this type of medication for life so it’s not harmful if taken properly with all precautions related to other possible pre-existing medical conditions or anything else pertinent. Hopefully this helps at least one person. Good luck to everyone.
