Curcumin

Has anyone tried curcumin (from tumeric)? It seems to have very nice anti-inflammatory and cardiovasular effects (research is consistent). However, on some web sites they state it as a 5AR. I can’t though find anything showing it decreases DHT or 5AR progesterone, corticosterone. Any thoughts?

Yes, I have used curcumin before. It is a powerful anti-inflammatory. I found a slight imporvement in cognition. My wife once got the flu and a few dys later I started feeling fluish and weak…I took 500mg capsule three times a day and the flu never set in, it was barely a cold. It is proven that curcumin clears away the plaque build up in the brain that alzheimers suffers show, leading to better cognition. It can also be taken for prostatis. At higer doses it has shown to stop the spread of cancers.
Curcumin has MANY benefits, just google it…In my opinion it is the one “all round” health supplement that should be tried.

Seems like a bad idea for any of us to take significant doses of curcumin!!!

I’ve also read several websites claiming that curcumin is a 5AR inhibitor of either typeI, typeII, or both types since it reportedly has a beneficial effect on hair loss and acne, but also couldn’t find any solid evidence that it does. I think most of those posters just assume that curcumin inhibits 5AR since it seems to possess anti-androgenic qualities.

Curcumin has, however, been shown to have an antagonistic effect on androgen receptors:

There were also a handful of discussions about curcumin causing lowered libido. Here’s a couple of the better ones:

Cumkwakka (pretty sure he’s a PFS sufferer and a member on Phelp) and a few other random non-PFS guys complaining of lowered libido from taking curcumin:

Curcumin initially sounded like something that would really help many guys on this board. Then it turns out to be an anti-androgen. This fkn sucks.

turmeric is used daily in Indian subcontinent(india, pakistan ,Sri lank,Bangladesh etc) and in other countries. In India people mix turmeric in milk and drink for internal bleeding or bruises etc. If turmeric is anti androgenic then India should have the least population on earth.
