  2. Tell us your story, in your own words, about your Finasteride usage and side effects experienced while on/off the drug.

Mental and physical sides on drug. I thought I had developed adult ADD and got adderall prescribed but did not use. I have had a slow increase in symtoms over time after quirring. Until 2 years ago was able to have sex but none in last two years. Finally had full endocrine crash over thanksgiving with depression anxiety overnight shrinkage of penis and balls to pre puberty size. I have gained over 30 pounds since using drug. My crash after number of years may have be caused by onset of type 2 diabetes. I have been showing pre diabetes for number of years due to weight gain on regular blood test.

If you are experiencing a “crash” 7 years post drug I would investigate alternative avenues. Generally speaking, a hormonal crash typically occurs within weeks of stopping the drug, not years later.

That said, considering your low Testosterone/DHT perhaps the drug messed you up hormonally or otherwise if you felt you never recovered once off it, which could have played into your current state. Either way hopefully you will make progress towards better health.

I do not think that’s why. I have a 12 years propecia and nothing to do with diabetes.

Thanks for your response. I do think there are 2 or 3 others ( not a lot) on the board who never experienced the “crash” after getting of the drug but, had a number of the sexual and mental problems. I was in this group until this past November. I agree with you that in my case the drug caused a hormonal imbalance that has become worse over time.

I agree, I do not think propecia caused my diabetes. I think the onset of type 2 diabetes finally caused me to crash. I have had a worsening sexual problems since taking the drug but, never had the “crash” with overnight extreme shrinkage of the penis and the testes, anxiety, two weeks of crying and suicidal thoughts until this past November.

Still waiting to get detailed blood test to post in blood work section.
