Costs of complete blood work in Canada?

Hi Guys,

Can anyone guide me as to find an estimate of costs to do a complete blood test for someone with PFS - including hormone profile, Cortisol, SHBG etc?

An estimate would be enough…

Free through your doctor.

Otherwise, more than $1,000 CAD.

Do you think there is a chance for the family physician to order the blood work or will be refer me to a specialist straight way? looking to see how it works in Canada.

I have an insurance but I am afraid if I declare that it is a four year old problem, the doctor might not cover me? Do you suggest, I just say its a four month old problem instead so I can be covered? your thoughts? I know I would prefer to discuss my past and show a lot of previous reports but not at the cost of paying up as I really dont have that kind of money.

To my knowledge, a GP can order the same tests as an endocrinologist. It’s just a matter of whether they want to/feel its warranted.

Nobody can answer what will happen based on a future discussion.

I don’t know how much you’ve discussed with your GP or if they have your prescription records. It’s in your best interest to be truthful if possible.

Ultimately you will need to make that decision for yourself. If there is no record of you having been prescribed the drug then I suppose its possible to claim you took it more recently… however, what might be more effective if you plan to mention you’ve been suffering for 4 years is presenting the media/medical publishings from propeciahelp.com/studies-and-research to back up your claims that this is a real problem you have been suffering from, and would like to be evaluated hormonally.
