Cortisol in relation to muscle and bone loss

Hi All,

Just thought I’d put this out there as I thought it was pretty relevant in relation to our symptoms.

Many of us have claimed high cortisol levels - when cortisol is released it mediates the breakdown of muscle to try and increase blood glucose levels (seen in diabetics who are either resistant to insulin or do not produce endogenous insulin).

Cortisol also decreases bone formation and so prolonged levels of high cortisol could cause osteopenia due to relatively low osteoblast activity.

I’m suggesting that the muscle loss which is widely experienced may not be due to androgen insensitivity.

Any thoughts on this?

You know what that’s an idea doing the rounds on another forum I saw.

I myself am not sure, might well be of interest to the higher ups/research crew.

On the same note, after adrenals crash and you have chronicly low cortisol you will also have muscle wastage. I found at that point that taking hydrocortisone helped with muscle wastage.

How many of you guys experience bone loss anyway?
