cold turkey question

"quitting finasteride suddenly or lower the dosage then quit " is most effective ?
i think sudden quit have problems with drug because others body recover easily
just a theory but i believe this happens like that

my first quit is lowering the dosage and i recovred fully after 1 month but second quit is cold turkey now i cant recover i try start the propecia for 3 months then try to quit with lowering the dosage again i think that works…

I think you can get away with quitting it cold turkey after a brief usage but still wouldn’t recommend it. Or maybe a long extended usage with little or no breaks between going by some experiences on here.

However I had extreme anxiety, manic nightmares and the ‘crash’ after stopping suddenly, only 'cos I’d misplaced the supply, had been intending to lower/space out the dosage. I can’t be certain that’s what caused all my problems since but I’m certain they would have been a lot lessened without this sudden shock to the HPTA/adrenals. Most people here with severe symptoms followed the same path.

Anyone in the medical field will tell you suddenly stopping a drug is the worst thing you can do, just look at some people who’ve done this with SSRIs. Unfortunately for some of us fin users this method has particularly devastating consequences. Chronic ED is currently the least of my worries.

yes u’re very right. sudden quit of finasteride is the worst thing ever.
my last quit is cold turkey. 1 year before the last quit, i quit this drug with lowering dosage method and i recovered nearly one hundred percent . i started using again then do my last escape without any supplement or smths , now i m suffering sides about 2 months but im %50 fine .

My husband has been on this crap for probably 10 years. We will be married now for 5 years. He took the 1mg dose until about a year ago and changed to the 5mg dose. We went from a low sex life of a few times a month to no sex life. I voiced my concern and he ordered a shampoo saying he would stop this medication. He didn’t and now he is suffering much of those other symptoms… poor memory, forgetful, depressed, belly fat (he runs 4-6 miles a day), achy, frequent illnessess colds and allergies, etc… I have been concerned and volia this site… expressing everything I have suspected. I called him at work and listed out the extensive side effect list and asked him to quit. He said he didn’t realize these things and will, but I don’t know if he should now wean or go cold turkey. I am a nurse and many meds need weaning, some don’t. I just don’t know enough about this yet. please write back and let me know. I never cared about his hair, he did. I have felt that him refusing to get off this med was a rejection of me. So please help cold turkey ok?

Ween off just to be safe, gradually lower and space out the dosage.

well, he stopped over 48 hrs ago and freaked out this morning on me. Yelling, broke a door, and crying even saying he can’t sleep, having nightmares, is tired, overwhelmed and stressed out at work and home, etc… (He does not do this EVER and nothing has changed at home and work is stressful, but similar- no different) Is this hormone level rebalancing like post baby psychosis or menopausal women? He doesn’t ever want to start back the pills so how long will this yoyo last? thanks for replying.

Read FAQ at top of site. Get bloodwork therein to see whats going on.

After 48 hours it’s probably not too late for him to start taking them again and slowly quit, many of thos initial symptoms are horribly similar to when I abruptly stopped.

nightmares… absolutely ruined my physocolgy… time might be the perfect solution for all of us.
