[This thread is for those with debilitating cognitive sides that came on after quitting Propecia and persisted (or are continually worsening) for at least 8-12 months. I think it would benefit us to identify how many people have these problems and integrate what we know is likely not a related factor and what may be. I suggest those that fit this category briefly list their problems, any test results (positive or negative) that may provide insight, and drugs or activities that have improved, not affected or worsened the symptoms (e.g. in the format below).]
Problems:
Word retrieval
Verbal fluency
Working memory
Long-term memory
Tests out of normal range:
Low HDL
High LDL
Low Free Testosterone
High Epinephrine
Poor Sleep Efficiency (Frequently waking during sleep study)
Sleep Stage Problems (Low REM and Slow Wave Sleep)
Tests within normal range:
Brain EEG
Brain MRI
Thyroid Panel
Sleep Apnea
Drugs Tried and Effects on Cognition:
Propecia: Improved all Problems (took it a 2nd time after quitting; since stopping the 2nd time things are bad again/getting worse)
Testosterone gel (30mg/day): No noticeable improvement or decline
Clomiphine Citrate (25mg/EOD): Worsened word retrieval, verbal fluency, working memory (possibly affected long-term memory)
Selegiline (5mg/day): No noticeable improvement or decline
Adderall (5mg-20mg): Couldn’t continue due to sides (Jitters, jaw clenching)
