Class Action against Generic Drugs

Is there such thing as class action against generic drugs? I had reached out to the firm involved in a class action against Merck and they told me that I wasn’t eligible because I only ever took a generic.

How does this work from a legal recourse perspective? Is nobody culpable with a generic? If a legal precedent is set that Merck pays off those involved in a class action then isn’t that ammo for further litigation aimed at generics (unless there’s nobody to lodge that at)?
