I have been contacted by Meghan Dwyer of CBS News. They are looking to do a TV news story on men in Chicago suffering from persistent Propecia side effects, which will air in early May on CBS.

Great news! I hope there are some of us on this board that can participate especially since it will be anonymous.

For anyone that can participate I urge you to prepare your thoughts ahead of time. If you write out your thoughts ahead of time in short, simple sentences they will be familiar to you easily spoken coherently and understandably. Focus both on your personal story, which you will probably be asked about, and some of the major items we need to get out there such as:

A list of some major sides propecia sufferers are experiencing (keep it clean and provable)
Irwig’s study
Traish’s study
Studies suggest the incidence of side effects are much higher than the warning label
DHT is not a bad hormone as the Propecia marketing suggests, but rather an essential hormone to male health
Proscar, which Merck market’s to shrink prostates and carries a much stronger warning label, has almost the exact same physiological action as Propecia
Propecia’s product label suggests ED, if developed, will go away but Merck refuses to provide a timeframe when this will happen
Most doctors have been unwilling to listen to PFS sufferers because these side effects weren’t listed on the product label despite the fact that they were identified in previous studies
etc.

Mew, perhaps you already have a better list prepared? I have been working on some items but they are not polished yet. If someone wants more info especially about the similarity of physiological effect between 5 mg Proscar and 1 mg Propecia please PM me and I will share what I haven’t yet posted here.

That’s encouraging. Make sure, whoever gets interviewed, that your comments can’t be taken out of context to help serve the agenda to dissuade this as legitimate. The media can be tricky, but we have the research and facts on our side, anyway.

It might be prudent to ensure that the selected experts are knowledgeable on the issue and won’t try to undermine the legitimacy of the condition.

I’m specifically thinking of trying to prevent something like Bald Talk Truth with Spencer Kobren from happening again, although this does not immediately seem like it is the case.

I apologize, it will not be an interview. It will only be me telling my story to the camera… Perhaps they have others who are actually being interviewed… I guess I’m going to talk about what i’ve been through over the past 2 years… Who knows what they’re going to keep and cut out to make it fit…

Nothing major… Just my story basically… He tried to get me to comment on the case or lash out at Merck, I really didn’t bite… I don’t think I said anything that would be consider detrimental. I said I was very upset with the whole situation and they need own up to this…

I’m hoping they don’t do some weird editing or take comments out of context. Again, great job Toad. I’m sure all of us would have been very nervous.

Did the interviewer seem sympathetic or were they more skeptical?

Did they mention exactly when it will air?

Would be great if we could post it on the homepage after it airs. :slight_smile:

If anything the kind of questioning seemed to be more sympathetic then anything else. As of right now, the air date should be very soon. He said he would be shocked if it would be more then 2 weeks. I will let everyone know the date in which this will be aired. I am sure it will be available online as well. I will email him to verify whether or not there will be a place to view it on the web.
