can we get mainstream press to write about us?

what if we can get reputable media like nytimes write about our situation
and in the article getting short interviews from doctors like chrisler and others who really knows about the problem.
then we can gather more attention of medical community at large and perhaps may be the FDA

what do you guys think?

its obvious that this would be a good thing - so instead of just posing the question to the board - draft a template letter if you wish and post it to the board for review

The first phase in getting this problem dealt with is getting the medical world to recognise this drug causes long-term problems in some men. It’s been 10 years and we haven’t even reached anywhere near that point yet. That’s why getting media attention is absolutely VITAL.

Only hope, what lucky fax said is correct. I doubt you will find a reputable news outlet willing to publish anything without some type of clinical proof that this drug has long term negative effects on a man’s endocrine system. The medical community would embrace the reality of the damaging effects of finasteride, with a verifyable clinical study in hand.

Unfortunately, these organizations are not doing this for a profit. They have limited funds to do so and moving at a very slow pace. It could take at least a few years to get to the point of having a conclusive clinical study.

the reason that swedish medical agency has concluded that propecia can cause ED even long after quitting

and popular doctors like alan jacobs, crisler who is currently seeing hundreds(if not thousands) is enough is convince the main stream media to write about us…

lets discuss what should be included in the document we sent to the journalists?

mainstream media can do a lot in way medical community at large starts to identity this as a real problem

my take on what should be told to journalists:

  1. swedish medical agency investigation finding
  2. people on this forum who have been suffering for more than 3+ years
  3. a small interview with Drs who knows about the problem
  4. additional side effects from the drug(brain fog.low motivation etc) not mentioned by Merck
  5. Information about the clinical study that is going on(George Washington Univertity)

please add yours…in a few days I will start preparing the document.

The study is the relevant item to bring attention to. People want fact and not conjecture. If you can bring a concrete fact to the table, then people will gravitate toward the issue. Starting with asking if they have heard about the study going on and then explaining symptoms is a good approach.

Yeah, when the study appears will be the time for all of us to hit the media with concrete proof of what this drug does.

I wouldn’t be afraid to also mention the check study on how it effects neurosteroids as well as Jacobs blog postings. These hold weight as well.

I haven’t seen anything in the media that sheds light on the drug’s harmful effects but I have seen TONS of articles promoting this crap as the greatest thing since sliced bread. The media is part of the problem, imo

what makes you so sure the study gets published…
what if merck pays off the researchers to not publish the study?

lets not wait for miracles to happen

swedish medical agency investigation should be enough to convince the mainstream media to write about…

how do you think we should approach journalists?
is cold calling ok?
please present ideas

I’d suggest posting a draft letter here to be edited vs cold calling - or perhaps asking what got the Swedish and BBC reporters interested

I just sent the following email to the editor of Mens Journal (letters@mensjournal.com). I don’t expect a miracle but who knows. It is a very good magazine that does some good investigative journalism. Maybe they’ll show some interest.

Uh… Why didn’t you post something here to edit? Or pm it to an admin? Your also not really a representative of this site as you are not an admin… If I personally was the editor of this magazine an was told to “assign a writer” to anything I’d probobly trash the email immediately.

Hopefully, though, he will write back

Why don’t you post something yourself if your so concerned about what I did…have you notified any media outlets of our situation? Just cause you’ve made almost 600 posts in 7 months does not make you a representative of this site either. You don’t have to comment on everything.

You really don’t know how much involvement i do or do not have in this website (or what goes on for our cause off this website) - and even if I am or am not a representative - I do know that Mew and Awor are. You don’t seem to realize what sending out a poorly written letter can do, it can turn a media outlet off - the wrong thing to do in our case. I asked earlier in this thread that if a user was inclined to post such a letter - and you went to send it off anyway, without considering the rest of us.
