Can someone walk me through what a full work-up for prostatitis looks like?

Hey guys,

For those of you who have been diagnosed with prostatitis. Can you walk me through the tests your doctor ran? One in particular baffles me “collecting prostatitic fluid”?

What the heck does that entail? :open_mouth:

Ironically I’ve been to a uro and he only did a cytoscopy with me (my GP did a digital rectal exam and concluded that the prostate felt fine)… so I’m a bit confused as to what tests to ask for and, as I mentioned above, what these tests actually entail. I had a nightmare that my GP asked me to drop my pants so he could jack me off for “prostatitic fluid”… NO THANKS DOC!! Haha seriously though any insight would be appreciated.

Anyone?

Is there a secret word I need to use to get a response around here?

Ask solonjk.

Thanks… will do.

Transrectal ultrasound

Thanks for the feedback man. I’ve actually researched the hell out of this quite a while back but I appreciate the response all the same.

Cheers,

u knon how they collect prostatis fluid

it’s quite unconfortable but it has to be done

i did stamey test

I am not looking forward to having my prostatitc fluid collected. :frowning:

Gotta do what we’ve got to do I guess!

Man what do you want to find out?
a) you need transrectal ultrasound to find if you have inflammation
b) someone or some device to pressure your prostate enough to get fluid out for testing. But labs are a bit crappy, it takes 7-10 days for all bacteria/chlamydia identification. To find this lab is hard. I found one in Belgium, one in Greece that provided similar results. The rest gave me tests back in 2 days saying irrelevant stuff, missed infections or just stating i am clear.
c) even if you get proper lab to test you and even if you start antibiotics based on this labs they won’t get into your prostate. There is a different ph gradient inside the prostate for them to enter, there is calcified tissue which harbors a continuous source of bacteria and needs to be broken down. This can be done only by damaging the prostate again, by strong massaging action, either by a finger or even better by a device. I have designed one to self treat and looking for a smelter to produce it. It must be from some very safe metal so you don’t introduce more bacteria inside your body.
d) last but not least, you need something to boost your blood flow inside the prostate during your antibiotic treatment. Otherwise its too hard for them to enter, or they will not enter in proper amounts, and massaging only lets them enter for some time. This could be some herb like damiana, but it has to be kept low. Cialis could also work as some other patient notified me today but it takes some time to kick in.

So you see theres a few complexities in treating it efficiently. Even though doing massages + antibiotics can improve you a lot.

In summary two tests are enough for diagnosing
a) transrectal ultrasound
b) stamey-mears or just a prostate massage to get the fluid out for testing for exact bacteria/fungi/chlamydia

Hey… thanks again solonjk. I appreciate your response, that was super helpful. I’m planning to visit a prostatitis clinic in mid-August to begin all these tests to thoroughly rule out/address that angle.

Cheers,
