Can anyone help me PLEASE?

First, I want to thank everyone in advance for reading and responding to my post. I’m not sure if I’m posting in the right forum or not but here goes.

I have been on propecia for 3 months and noticed some sexual problems such as loss of sex drive, trouble reaching orgasam and basicly no sensation when reaching an orgasam. I didn’t have a girlfriend durring this time and didn’t masturbate often enough to really realize I was having a serious problem. I also have a hard time maintaining an erection.

About 3 weeks ago I started have a discomfort, not really a pain in my genital region. It’s really tough for me to tell exactly where it is but it feels like inside my testicles and penis. The discomfort feels like there is something stuck in my penis and testes, when I sit down it almost feels like I’m sitting on something. Once again not really painful as much as uncomfortable.

I recalled that about 5 years ago I had a similar feeling for a while that went away eventually so I tried to recall any lifestyle changes or similarities from that time. I can’t be 100% sure but around the same time 5 years ago I had been given a script for propecia which I took for about a month. I discontinued usage then because of the cost. I put the two together and decided to google Propecia side effects which led me to this site.

I stopped taking the Propecia on Christmas so it’s been about a week but I still have this uncomfortable feeling down there, although I think is has subsided a bit. I am very concerned and wanted to see if anyone has had this discomfort I’m describing and if so what is it exactly. My hope is now that I have stopped usage the side effects will go away, but after reading most of your stories I am discouraged.

Now I’m thinking back and since the 1 month cycle I used 5 years ago I have had problems keeping an erection at times but no other effects. Also is this going to get worse for me now as the days and months go on that I am no longer taking the drug. I don’t currently have a girl so if the sexual problems continue for awhile…oh-well, but this uncomfortable pain in my dick/testes is what I hope to rid myself of. In the week I have stopped propecia I have had better sensation durring orgasam but not the same as before, does this mean I am going to recover? Or is it about to get worse now that I’m off? I also have a slight pain at times at the tip of my dick.

I’m sorry if I’m rambling but I’m just freaking the fuck out at this point, I try reading to educate myself but I can’t comprehend alot of this so any help would be greatfully appreciated. Thank you and happy, healthy new years to you all.

Hello, welcome, sorry that you’re having troubles.

As I tell everyone, suggest you get Hormones & Bloodtests as outlined at top of that section of the site to see what’s going on with your hormones.

Some guys have had issues with Prostatits after Finasteride causing them discomfort, which can be tested for or helped with antibiotics. Check the Prostatitis section for more info.

You could also request a Doppler Ultrasound of your penis to check for bloodflow issues, and a Nocturnal Penile Tumescence test to check for nocturnal erections, which are critical to maintaining fresh oxygenated bloodflow to maintaine penile tissue health/prevent fibrosis.

Have you had any changes in your penis length/girth, shrinkage, veins appearing, tissue color changes? Is your penis numb to the touch or still sensitive? Do you get morning/nocturnal/spontaneous erections? How is your libido?

Since you just quit, time will tell how things go for you, but you mention using the drug 5 years ago and not having “recovered” in terms of erections since that point in time… I would assume you will likely get back to where you were prior to the initial discontinuation.

Mew, thanks for your response.

I do not notice any change in my penis lenght/ girth or any kind of shrinkage at this point. No noticeable color changes. At times the tip of my penis is a bit sensitive/numb and there are some very noticeable veins along the front of my penis. Could you help me understand why these veins are here and if they will eventually go away?

My libido is gone and hasn’t returned in the week or so that I have quit propecia. My problem is that I never knew there were these side effects from propecia, and since I don’t have a girl friend and didn’t masturbate often enough to recognize their was a problem (because of lost libido I assume), I now am trying to retrace my steps from the past 3 months. I don’t recall having morning wood at all during the last 3 months. It also takes me a long time to reach orgasam, I used to be able to throw in a porno a pop instantly, but now it seems to take forever and I don’t understand this as well as not being able to keep an erection for very long.

The only real changes I have noticed in the last week is that I can have a pleasurable orgasam again, I can feel it, unlike when I was on the drug. It doesn’t feel 100% right, but much more like an orgasam should feel. I also have had a slight morning woody on a couple of days, kind of semi-hard but since I can’t recall a morning woody at all during my use I guess that’s a step in the right direction. I still do have the uncomfortable pain when I sit at times.

Thanks for helping me try to understand this Mew

Follow up…

Well, slight improvement has all but vanished. It has now been 19 days since I have stopped using Propecia (after 3 months use). Within a couple of days of my body being propecia free, I once again had a pleasurable orgasam… meaning It felt like a normal, healthy, awesome feeling it has always been.

The last week it has again gone south. I have a slight feeling before I’m about to blow and then that’s it, I cum and it just kinda creeps out with no force behind it. Also my semen is very thick and there isn’t a whole lot there. It still is taking me much longer to cum than normal. My erections at this point seem to be improving as I am waking up with morning wood and getting spontanious erections, hopefully this won’t dissappear in the coming days.

The uncomfortable feeling I have had in my groin/ balls area seems to be fading. Days 3-11 of being off the drug seemed promising as I was feeling my orgasams like I should, but now It seems to still be all out of whack.

I can’t get bloodwork done or see a Dr. at this time because of no money or insurance. Since I’m trying to treat, educate and evaluate myself, any help, suggestions or opinions from you guys will be greatly appreciated. If I can help any of you guys with how I feel day to day since quitting let me know.

Thanks

When I read your story it reminds me of my first problems with Propecia. I had most of your symptoms and I was curing them with antibiotic. It was doxycicline and it brought me back to normality that time…

Majkellos, How long did you have prostatitis symptoms?? Are you cured now? I didn’t know you had symptoms that you got rid of with some antibiotics… Can you tell me your story?

I now feel like I have recovered from the Propecia thing, Moreso than even a month and a half ago. I get wood, and big woodies. I have pretty big libido.
I think my onnly problem now is that I’ve been left with a somewhat infected prostate. SOmetimes it feels better than other, but its still like I have a little chronic prostatitis or BPH at times.

You sound like you’re recovered. DId you post a “Member’s Profile” ?

Read my story in the members area. You will get most answers to your questions. I had some moderate problems with Propecia and I cured them with antibiotic. It tragicly happened not to be strong enough, that I switched to Dutasteride and despite quiting it more then a 2 years ago, I still suffer most sides.

Pretty devastating.

Hey Boston,
Just curious how long it took you to regain your libido after you stopped using the drug. Also if you believe I am suffering from prostatitis as well from reading my posts. I know you guys aren’t doctors, but like I said I can’t afford one at the moment so I’m hoping to treat myself.

Thanks,

Its tough to know for sure. It would come and go. I think a lot of libido is in your head, I’ve concluded.
When my penis is feeling good, and I’m not worrying about it, I’m thinking about sex again, and horny, and can get it up.

I would try some antibiotics if you have prostatitis symptoms. There are some guys on here that as soon as they got these devastating prostatitis symptoms, they took antibiotics, and it went away. I can think of about three right now.

So if you fit the description of someone with prostatitis, then try some Cipro first. Its probably the most widely available. Find some free clinic, tell them its urgent urgent you get on some antibiotics right away, and dont leave without a script for Cipro. They cant deny you health care man. Tell them you are in pain. They usually prescribe it for about two-three weeks.

Good luck.
Hopefully it takes care of your prostatitis symptoms, if thats what you are suffering from.
