Can a geneticist test for epigenetic abnormalities?

I have been wondering… if it possible for a geneticist to do some sort of test to see which genes are methylated/ unmethylated and could be causing our issues?

Yes, but he or she will need samples from specific tissue you’d want to test.

So it’s not very convientent, especially while you’re still alive.

ohhh that makes sense… they’ll probably have to take out a part of my brain or CNS. thanks for the reply

@kathy they can take all of mine

I am.getting a referral to a geneticist. What should I be asking for?

I’m not sure to be honest, I imagine maybe they’ll need a piece of your brain to examine the epigenetic expression in your brain/ nervous system… I really have no idea so don’t take this seriously

Any updates

They could probably order a microarray analysis similar to what Baylor did…

Interested in this.

If we wanted to individually know what genes have been silenced, what would be the best way to proceed along with cost estimates?

If anyone knows

I think it was between1500 and 2000…

Thanks bro

Please don’t spend your money on pathway analysis yourselves. Our upcoming research, which we will hopefully announce soon, will perform a much more thorough version of this analysis and actually be published in a scientific journal.

im definitely not going to spend money on that (yet anyway)

priorities are the research. im cognizant even if i got my results back i probably wouldnt be able to do anything with it without furthering our efforts here
