Broccoli, Saw Palmetto, Zinc, ... I really don't get it!?

Hey guys,

Sorry, but I really had to open a new thread for this as it’s really something that confuses me and I would really like to hear your thoughts on it.

It seems that a lot here benefit from supplements and diets that are known for INHIBITING the 5-AR reductase like Broccoli, Saw Palmetto, Zinc (and some others I don’t remember right know… will update it).

My question is WHY? Is there any logical explaination for this? Of course one cannot deny the fact that it helps…

BUT as it isn’t a permanent cure I am really starting to think of the following explaination:
Most of us (including me) crashed AFTER stopping propecia. Though some of the symptoms were of cause already there during Propecia-use, they got really worse after quitting the drug. So can it be that the above mentioned treatments are actually only helping because they are doing exact thing like Propecia (inhibiting 5-ar reductase) and therefore mitigate the symptoms, just like when we were back on Propecia.

Hope you get what I mean, cause my english isn’t the best.

I know, it sounds a little crazy and, again, I don’t want to deny the facts that it helps a lot of PFS-sufferers, but you know it really confuses me, not to say I’m really afraid on the long run these treatments doesn’t bring the cure we expect it to bring. Cause the studies obviously say that those are natural 5-AR inhibitors…just like Propecia.

All the best,
Dreiser

i think zinc is helping people because estrogen dominance creates a high copper state. so zinc is balancing it out.

broccolli has estrogen slashing properties i think.

saw palmetto helped someone? where did you see that?

for me finasteride has created estrogen dominance and all the implications that come with it, including altered gene expression and immune problems…

finasteride does more then it was intended to do in a very bad way.

Thank you very much for your answers.

Okay, that sounds logical and could be the reason. Nonetheless I still hesitate to take something that is actually known for it’s 5-ar inhibition  But what else could we do other then try something out.

Oh sorry, I have to apologize. I think I have been mistaken on this. I didn’t found it again, so maybe I mixed something up.

Edit: Oh actually I completely mixed it up with “Paleo”-diet. I’m so sorry!!!
