Brand of Generic Used

Recently, I was able to request a copy of my drug prescription history from the local pharmacy were I received this poison. Come to find out that I received all generic finasteride fills. A total of four. As it turns out, the first three fills were done with generic finasteride from Teva Pharmacueticals. The last fill was with North Pharmacueticals. This is ironic because it was the last run that got me. I basically went off the deep end with the last batch.

I am wondering if anyone out there has kept track of their RX history to see if they received generic finasteride instead of Merck brand. Also, I am wondering if anyone has kept track of what generics they were being given. I am wondering if it is possible that a certain generic brand may have had a role in this (specifically North Pharmacueticals).

Finasteride is Finasteride. Generic or Merck products, many of us are affected the same. It should not matter.

Personally I took the genuine Merck product, as did many others. The fact you took generics and still ended up with same issues should make it clear, the molecule and 5AR inhibition/mechanisms of action are the same, no matter what brand they slap on it.

I agree… I took Propecia (merck brand) both times I played around with fin… The first time I recovered fully from it… The second time I did not…

Does anyone out there know if using the generic brand excludes you from any potential class action lawsuits? I am not telling anyone to talk about the their existing cases out there. I am talking in hypothetical terms.

Yes it does, as do alot of things that you may or may have not done or took. I am in the beginnings of litigation at the moment and the questionnaire is very thorough as to make sure there is no way they can pin this on something else you did or took.

This will be determined by the courts likely later this summer. Apparently there will be ruling on whether generics can also count towards lawsuits in general.

Maybe off a doctor generics are OK, but for people like myself who purchased generic finasteride off internet sites like inhousepharmacy there is no way of winning anything in court.

Fincar from Inhouse. £15.09 for 3 month’s worth. Thought that was a bargain to keep my hair - what an idiot.

What the fuck is wrong with the U.S. legal system!!!?

I guess many of you are already aware of this.

Does this mean only the patent holder can be sued for undisclosed side effects?

Long time lurker and now new member here. I know I have to fill out profile related to how I got here but this was the first post that jumped out at me and made me register and respond. In 2006/2007 I used genuine propecia from Merck for 3 or 4 months without any side effects. Due to the prohibitive cost I sought a generic version which I obtained through some British named website (which had been recommended on a hairloss forum) but which in actuality came from an Indian website. I still have the pills they are named Sypesiya-1 and were mfg by YP Healthcare. I took them for about 2 weeks in 2007 got sexual side effects, stopped taking them and recovered all function. For whatever reason I did not dispose of pills. In 2008 I was reading on hairloss forum about how your body has to get adjusted to propecia and that sides would eventually go away and thus started retaking this generic variant in .50mg doses gradually increasing to 1 mg. Almost immediately I got sexual sides but I continued taking with the thought that any side effects would go away. After about 3 weeks I came to my senses but it was too late, I was chemically castrated and still suffer sexual sides to this day. I often thought about sending these pills to Dr. Irwig to see if he could determine why these generics did this to me when the authentic did not. In any event I realize know that genuine propecia causes many here to suffer but it did not effect me in that manner. The generic version however did and I suffer many of the ailments discussed by other members. Just my 2 cents.

There are other factors that can cause sexual dysfunction in your case, not just the fact that you were taking a generic. One factor is you were upping the dose. Another factor, and the most likely from my experience on this board, is you took fin multiple times and stopped. There are a few people who stopped for whatever reason, either recovering from sexual sides or they just couldn’t afford it, started again and developed sides that are persistent even after discontinuing. You fall in this category.
