blood test - thyroid and pituitary issue found

Here’s my recent blood work result which is interesting. Doc ordered another test since he suspected I might have hyperthyroidism and pituitary issue. I stopped taking propecia Nov 2007.

TSH 1.1 (Oct 2007)
0.8 (Mar 2008)
0.21 (Oct 2008)
0.18 (Oct 2008 2nd) [0.45 - 4.5]

IGF-1 288 [109 - 284]

I was on and off with propecia 3 times during last year and I stopped taking it on last Nov due to the following symtoms. It didn’t really help thickening my hair and instead I started having this side effects which made me still sufferring since then.

  • acne breakout on my face, excessive facial oil
  • unwanted facial hair on my cheek, jaw line
  • hair all over body started growing,
  • underarm sweat which I never had before, my body got much more sweaty

I strongly believe that propecia made some permanent change on my hormone system and it caused TSH and IGF-1 level changed on top of side effects. Is there anyone who has abnormal result of TSH and IGF-1 after taking propecia? And also anybody made a success on recovery for these symtoms?

According to my blood tests, I am now hypothyroid. But I am going to be tested again in January to see if there is any “spontaneous improvement”, as my doctor said.

That’s interesting as most guys with Thyroid issues after Fin have ended up HYPOthyroid (elevated TSH), not HYPERthyroid (low TSH):

However, judging from your list of symptoms, seems your body has swung the other way to a hyperthyroid state. Did you get any other bloodwork? Testosterone, Estradiol, DHT, LH/FSH etc?

What is the “pituitary issue” your doc is concerned about? I’m assuming it has to do with your IGF-1… labtestsonline.org/understan … /test.html

Perhaps with thyroid treatment your symptoms may resolve, but I’d be asking for additional tests to see what else may have been impacted by the drug.
