Black Cumin (Nigella Sativa)

I bought black cumin a while back, tried it once or twice at a rather low dosage and forgot about it. About ten days ago, I had a bad wound and I was worried about infection and thought about the black cumin, which is supposed to help fight infections. So I began to take it, but at a bigger dosage this time.

One thing I noticed is that it seems to help with anxiety. I wasn’t expecting that and the difference is not that striking, but after a couple of days I noticed I was feeling more relaxed than usual during the day and wasn’t having that much difficulty to fall asleep at night. But don’t get me wrong, I still need to exercise during the day and take ZMA before going to bed, but I fall asleep more easily and I don’t get these nights of anxiety when the only way I’m able to sleep is by taking clonazepam or drinking a couple of beers. I suppose it’s also related to anxiety, but I didn’t feel the need to drink since I’m taking black cumin. I try not to drink too often, but normally I do feel the need to do so once or twice a week just to keep my sanity.

I didn’t find so many things on the internet about black cumin. Many of the sites you’ll see are just recycling the same information. I didn’t read that many testimonies either. Anyway, I was wondering if anybody tried black cumin and if they had any benefit from it.

I haven’t tried this thing, but your post reminded me of the time when i took aspirin… It caused some strange reaction, kind of headache but certainly unusual one… It lasted one hour or something like that and i was feeling like my brain was in state of healing… Of course, it didn’t cured me from this shit, but since then i started to believe some kind of inflammation has some (important) part in pfs… Unfortunately, aspirin lost this effect and started causing some serious stomach issues so i had to stop using it.

I would attribute these things you have experienced to anti inflammatory effect of black cumin. Unfortunately these effects of many herbs and drugs seem to be temporary. Maybe our genes have to be changed from being inflammation promoting ? Meditation is one thing that is able to do that…

Yeah, it could be the anti-inflammatory property of black cumin. I’m actually tempted to give some credit to the theory of an autoimmune problem. I used to have seasonal allergies twice a year for about 2 or 3 weeks each time. After my crash, I began having it all year round, and after a couple of years, loratadine wasn’t even enough to control the symptoms anymore. The only way I was finally able to fix this was with intermittent fasting.

I have no idea if this anti-inflammatory property is temporary. I just ran out of the stuff, but I will continue the experiment once I’m able to get it again, in about a week or so.

I need some help here. While I was taking black cumin, I noticed I wasn’t losing as much hair as usual. This prompted me to check if black cumin is a 5-alpha-reductase inhibitor, and what I found was that it has beta-sitosterol as Saw Palmetto. The problem I have is that I have no idea of the beta-sitosterol content of black cumin. Are we talking about the amount you find in cashews or avocados, which are not affecting me when I consume them (and don’t have a noticeable effect on hair loss), or are we talking about the amount you find in Saw Palmetto?

I also noticed the hair at the back and on the sides of my head is smoother, so black cumin has apparently an effect on hair that is not necessarily related to the inhibition of DHT. I would probably keep experimenting with black cumin if the beta-sitosterol content is not a problem because it seems to help on bad days, but I need to have a clear answer on that. Anyone has any idea?

Seeing that there is noone to give you more relevant answer, i’ll just say that there is high probability we are lacking 5ar enzyme and how much that is part of pfs is a big question. For example, when i drink only one cup of green tea, my voice becomes different (literally loses its strength/depth to the amount that i can hardly speak for a couple of hours) and shrinkage increases. Those are most obvious changes. So, everyone of us has to be really careful with any 5ar inhibitor, and that’s why i am not sure whether to continue using omega 3 capsules because i heard somewhere it is also 5ar inhibitor.
