Beneficial Effects of Human Umbilical Cord Blood Mononuclear Cells on Persistent Erectile Dysfunction After Treatment of 5-Alpha Reductase Inhibitor in Rats

Cross post from. Reddit, didn’t see this study posted here.

Clinical translation: This study demonstrates the corrective potential of HUCB-MNCs on some persistent structural and functional deterioration caused by 5ARI treatment in rats, which may encourage further evaluation of HUCB-MNCs in men with PPED.

There seem to be quite a few sexual medicine studies done at Turkish Universities. Here’s another one studying the effects of sertraline on the reproductive system of male rats.

Everything they saw in that study has also been seen in finasteride treated rats.

Increased oxidation of the testes, sperm changes, decreased glutathione etc.

Also the increase in LH and T is interesting. Could be due to DHT depletion.

Edit: Found this which might be more plausible.

Otherwise, SSRIs, citalopram, fluoxetine, fluvoxamine, paroxetine, and SRT were able to inhibit the aromatase enzyme and thus potentially were able to change the balance between androgens and estrogens as shown in an in vitro study.

Just saw this on Reddit as well. Thanks for sharing @Cbrandel! I can’t believe I haven’t seen this as it seems to have been published over a year ago.
