I haven’t found a thread going over the similarities and differences between Post-Fin and Post-Dut sufferers, but I’d imagine Post-Dut MAY be slightly different given the very long half-life of the drug. Anyone who’s taken Dutasteride and suffered after coming off of it please describe your experiences below. Did you have a period of recovery after discontinuation followed by a crash? Or did you just sort of stay in the state you were in while on the drug, never recovering at all? Describe your symptoms and how they changed over time to the best of your ability.
The similarities and differences are quite irrelevant, we believe the resulting conditions of those negatively affected to be the same thing.
If you were to take two people with a finasteride derived condition you would likely find that they are not identically affected. Though the symptoms are variable, the cause is the same and it is extremely likely that the mechanism is the same. We don’t need to focus on differences, it is the similarities which will allow us to work together on these problems, wether it’s accutane, dutasteride, an SSRI or whatever else.
If you are interested in reading dutasteride specific stories, the forum Search throws up the following:
Pretty much the same as everyone always posts regarding FIN for me… stopped taking DUT, felt super awesome 4’ish weeks later, sex was amazing, hair started falling out again, etc. Started taking it again to stop those side effects… felt like crap again. Stopped taking it again, got the amazing week or so (4’ish weeks later) then I went back to feeling like crap and stayed that way.
With the longer half life I would have thought it would have taken longer than 3-4 weeks for me to get the good/bad rollercoaster effects that everyone talks about, but that’s what I got… twice.
I took FIN for 3-4 years then DUT for maybe 2? So I guess I can’t say for sure it was DUT and not FIN that did this to me, who knows really… but my situation is super common and comparable to lots of people that took FIN and DUT was what I took the last 2 years I was on anything, so I guess that’s my story.
i didnt have a “crash”, i just had symptoms happen during usage.
i had no morning wood, rubbery penis, no orgasm for sexual sides. I have brain fog, emotional blunting, and a little insomnia sometimes along with slight derealization.
Sexual sides recovered 1 month after quitting. Neuro/mental sides have not. its been 1 year since quitting.
drug has been out of my system 6-9 months after quitting according to calculations.
but i agree with @Greek, its kind of moot to dig into this aspect.
even fin sides are unique. some people dont crash even on fin and just have side effects they experience that get worse as they use.
had symptoms leading up to three months in and then at that point i crashed with an extreme panic attack
I do remember having a crazy panic attack not too long after I quit. I didn’t know what it was or even connect it to dut until later but I had literally never had one before then
