Anyone experiencing associative memory misfires?

Many times when I try to recall something, my mind churns out something not completely different, but very similar to what was intended.

For example, If I am trying to recall the name of a street, and the real name of the street is “Meadow Drive”, I might recollect “Valley Drive”. Or if I am trying to remember a part to a car, let’s say “brake disk”, I might say “brake pad” instead. I might call the “air conditioning”, “heating”; and I might call the “cabinet” a “draw”. These ‘memory misfires’ are extremely common, and an extreme burden.

My question: is anyone else experiencing this or is it all in my head? No pun intended.

I hear where you’re coming from, as I have a similar problem messing up words far more than normal (pre-Fin).

ie… instead of saying “Big Dog”, it would come out “Dig Bog”… my mind has a concept of what it is trying to express, but the tongue and formulation of the words stumbles/breaks down… like poor motor control of speech.

I will say this was very bad towards my 11 months on the drug (when slurring of speech and tongue numbness were beginning to set in) and 1st year off (feeling drunk all the time), but it has slowly gotten better after 4 years off to the point where it does not happen as much. My short term memory recall on the other hand, is still very bad compared to Pre-Fin.

hmm short term memory is definitely a problem for me as well. Today I was walking to class for the first time and I had to check my schedule 4 times because I kept forgetting the 4 digit room number. I ended up going to the second floor in the building because I thought the number started with a 2 … I had to check my schedule again and had to walk back downstairs. Lol, sometimes I just laugh it off.

You know, I’ve been going through phases of that. For the most part my short term memory is fine, but sometimes my head starts feeling weird and I can’t remember or process simple things like numbers or directions.

my case is very similair to tryingnot … i took 3 pills of 1/4 proscar and i also have on and off phases of ed and mental side effects…its been 2 months and its still on and off…

Same as tryingnottoworry. Depends on the day, some days i can’t do simple things, others feel quite normal.

I still have this occasionally. It’s always comical when I’m thinking one thing and go to say another and end up blending the two words into some weird frankenword that doesn’t exist. You should see the looks I get sometimes.

My short term memory on the other hand is horrible. (Never used to be)
