antidepressant are a possibile solution?

last week my urologist send me to a psychiatrist. i have accepted (my idea was bring my urologist that i have no psychological problem). the psychiatrist has made to me a lot of question about my mental (brain fog) and physical issue (loss libido, ED). at the end of the visit he say me that i probably have a psychosomatic slickness and that i should take an antidepressant (for six month) in order to re-generate my neurotransmitter… before this visit i was very sceptic about a “mental” solution of the problem, but now i am thinking to try this solution…

he say me that results are visible after 15 days (when the neurotransmitter begin to regenerate)…

what do you think about that? somebody has ever take antidepressant?

I think he might be wrong, but please report back after you try it. I was on AD for over a year with no effect except it spaced me out even more.

What antidepressent is he prescribing?

Be aware they come with their own side effects, often flattening of emotions and sexual dysfunction/numbess…

SSRIs (Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors) are notorious for this.

I would be very wary of taking an AD at this stage unless all your hormones are within range and you have no issues other than depression.

he prescribed me the antidepressant TRITTICO, that is the only one that have no sexual side effects…

(for a ridicolous coincidenze one of the side effects of this antidepressant is an extended (and painful) persistence of the erection! (in italian this effect is called “priaprismo”)

I have been on Clomipramine as well as wellbutrin.

Both have helped with the depression but still no libido, and no sensation in my dick

A/D’s are not the answer. Its a band-aid put on by the doctors since they dont know what else to do.

Trittico is the Italian brand name to Trazodone, which is simular to normal selective serotonine reuptake inhibitors like Prozac or Zoloft. It has much blander effects and is therefore less harmful.
It does not though exempt from sexual complications as it can retrogade ejaculation or even inhibit it.Nevertheless it is far safer than any other SSRI so in case of depressive states concomitant to sexual disfunctions, I would think it be the better choice.
