Antibiotics and estrogen

Just picked up Dr. Shippen’s book. I noticed that in the appendix it states that antibiotics can increase the amount of estrogen in the body.

I’ve been taking antibiotics for the last week as prescribed by my uro. He thinks I have bacterial prostatitis. Anyway, I’m stopping the antibiotics, and hopefully whoever reads this will too.

I thought all along that it was quite a coincidence that I would get a prostate infection at the same time I was on P (all the while having the same symptoms as everyone in here). However, thought it would be harmless. Guess I was wrong. In fact, I think I’ll never take another pill ever again!

did the antibiotics work for urination problems at all? I can’t remember if you said you had them. I feel like I gotta pee constantly, and was going to try to see a urologist because I think I do have prostatitis like symptoms… I know its unlikely to have some other unrelated infection at the same time as all this, but was wondering instead if maybe the finasteride trauma to my prostate and dick just caused the prostatitis or these prostatis like symptoms.
Obviously I’m not a doctor, but i just hate having to pee all the time. I’m too young to be incontinent.

ANyone have some input? Thanks.

Boston,

I think you are on to it. Here’s my theory anyways. I think that the propecia has pissed off our prostate in one way or another, whether our estrogen level is high right now or for some other reason. Anyway, I think this is why you/I have the symptoms of prostatitis (pain in the genital area, peeing a lot, etc.) I also think it is too coincidental that we would get a bacterial infection at the same time as we were on the propecia unless the propecia in some way limited the prostate’s defenses (which I am guessing hasn’t happened). Anyway, I don’t really have to pee a lot anymore and I don’t have lower back or genital area pain. I don’t think that the antibiotic did it, but maybe just that I am getting better. You must decide what is best for you though. I am taking a risk by not taking the antibiotic, but it is my own calculated risk. I am more worried about it raising my estrogen level and furthering the damage to my prostate.

If anyone has any advice, please let me know. There are many causes for prostatitis. I believe that propecia is one of them. Anybody else taken antibiotics for prostatitis after having p related sexual side effects??

Thanks

are your sexual side effects getting better? Can you get it up easily now. how about masterbation and all of that? I know its personal, but I used to be able to beat off all the time, even if depressed or not depressed, stressed, whatever, it didn’t matter, I could ge a hard-on easily. I hope i return to normal. I hope this libido comes back. I only took 20 pills. Wtf.

Good man!!
