I think it’s really screwed up and unethical that they keep dragging this soccer player’s name into the discussion. It should be libel.
And it’s awful reading the insensitive comments regarding our “vanity,” implying that we deserve this curse. The average 18, 19, 20 year old that starts feeling insecure about their hair and visits the doctor they trust does not know a damn thing about the mechanism by which this drug works, and is seldom, if ever told the potential side effects, and never told that they could be permanent. If someone makes an informed decision to take the risk, knowing that they could face permanent side effects, that’s a different situation.
It’s also annoying that the media coverage and all these health consultants to the networks do not, in simple terms, explain to the viewer that the fundamental mechanism by which finasteride operates is by curbing an essential male hormone, by cutting DHT and T, and that in and of itself, this is not a smart thing to do to a young male. That this action is bound to have a physical effect on a man’s genitalia according to established science and research – even if it cannot be predicted if they’ll have permanent PFS.
