An expert view on PSSD: ‘I have a hunch as to what might be causing it’

I wonder if this also relates to PFS ?

While research into the underlying biological mechanisms of the disorder remains in its infancy, Healy has a hunch as to where the problem lies. “I suspect that the peripheral nerve endings in the skin are no longer functioning as they should,” he says.

In Healy’s view, the development of a medical test might also validate the disorder which, though it was first reported to UK and US regulators in 1991, did not receive medical recognition from the European Medicine Agency until 2019.

“The problem a lot of people have is they go to their doctor and they are disbelieved,” says Healy. “If we had a test to show that the person’s peripheral nerve endings weren’t working right, that would change the discussion between the doctor and the patient.”

I have numb skin/genitals and one thing I’ve noticed is that it seems to mainly be superficial/close to surface.

Because I sometimes get these kind of deep pimples on my back/neck and I’ve had it since forever. And they hurt like crap when touched.

Also a few times I’ve hit my shin with a metal weight and the pain is same as before PFS.

But when I lightly touch the skin I can barely feel it.

Personally I think Dr Healy is a very good guy. Other people disagree with what he says. He is trying to find a solution. He also spends a lot of time speaking with Post-Accutane, Post-SSRI, Post-Finasteride patients. Very few doctors will do anything like that.

I just want to throw in that in my latest temp recovery lasting a few hours all the tingliness and skin sensation came back (the recovery was not caused by external hormones btw interestingly). I have pfs tho not pssd, and I don’t know what caused the recovery exactly or what happened
