Alright, I know that this is a Fin support group forum, but for people searching up Propecia and such for hair loss, which we are all desperate enough to take risking THESE side affects, I think its only civil, paramount to what this site is trying to achieve, and just plain RIGHT that there be a post about (possible) alternatives to Propocia, Proscar and the lot.
I’ve been scared right off the rocker of this drug, heck I might even have BPH and I don’t think I would take it now, but another thing is my hair is beginning to thin on the top, possibly sides but its a little long to notice, and my temples have started to get Velus…
But what this forum needs is a place that members here talk about and speculate on the other alternatives to this horrible drug, and possible side affects because we ALL including me and I haven’t taken it yet even, want to see less and less members sign up to this site not due to shame but because of aversion! And the best way to do this is, and though the terror stories may work for most, including myself as it surely has scared me from taking this and I am 21, is alternatives to hair loss or at least speculation on the side affects, and how they (obviously) would differ from Finasteride.
I move to mention Nizoral, as I am considering 2%, honestly. This is another DHT blocking medication, treated to the scalp. Scalp, very close to the brain, and DHT blocking, having quite the horrid affects I want to know what speculations and such could side affects of this be.
There have never been reports of decreased libido or such, but as with ALL hair care products there are the chances of head aches. Do you all consider the possibility that this is connected to the same side affects of finasteride?
Honestly, I am not trying to be a troll, or to deride anyone here or such, I simply want to help prevent people from taking this, as I found this forum in my search about the answers of this drug… Albeit, its a hard find… And even after reading 5 posts, I was STILL considering it, but after reading the recovery story posts, I was diswayed from ever popping one of these nightmares.
Current -possible- alternatives to the most COMMON use of this drug, hair loss, that I know of are;
Rogaine (Minoxidil) - The most common Rogaine side effects include itching and dandruff of the scalp. Using a dandruff shampoo should resolve the problem. If the dandruff shampoo does not help or if your scalp becomes irritated, stop using Rogaine and see your doctor. Less common but more serious Rogaine side effects include dizziness, faintness, rapid heartbeat, chest pain, sudden unexplained weight gain, and swollen extremities. If you experience these minoxidil side effects, you are absorbing too much Rogaine into your system. You should stop using Rogaine immediately and see your doctor.
Nizoral - This medication may cause abnormal hair texture, scalp pustules (pimples), dry skin and itching. There may also be oiliness and dryness of the hair and scalp. Rarely, there may be some hair loss (Usually shedding to Anagen).
Ketoconazole (Shampoo) - Matching Nizoral usually, though scalp pimples are usually rarer with certain shampoo types using Keto. Refutibly less effective at hair regrowth due to concentration values.
Ketoconazole (Oral Treatment) - Hepatic toxicity (Fatal), diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, drowsiness, dizziness, menstrual irregularities, impotence, increased sensitivity of eyes to light, breast tenderness or enlargement, or headache as your body adjusts to the medication. This product is JUST as dangerous as Fin when injested, it is a true medical treatment for DHT, therefore hair loss in cases that DHT is causing the hair loss… But oral treatments are not the way to go.
Nioxin Line - Possible scalp irritation. Thats about it, has a low chance of success is usually expensive, also the shampoo and conditioner have a cooling effect which can be mistaken for irritation, when in actuality its healing your scalp! Redness should be considered irritation. Shedding of hair to anagen stage may happen, Nioxin repordetly will NEVER regrow hair on its own, regrown hairs would have due to something else, it will help slow or possibly, completely retard hair loss. Follicle booster “possibly” works, but not many reviews are made ont his product.
Alo Vera Plant Leaves/Extract - Probably doesn’t work, but trying anything but Propecia is an added bonus to this treatment.
Laser Comb - Can dry your scalp and follicles, can cause hair loss. FDA approval is only for a “safe” product, not for hair loss, or regeneration or even good for your scalp.
Saw Palmetto (Orally) - The exact side affects of Finasteride, often worse due to the IMMENSE concentration of the plants extract in pills, and “all natural” extract drinks. This product is not particularly pharmaceutical companies fault for spreading its popularity, this plant is spread due to the Native Americans previous usage for Saw Palmetto for, ironically, libido and erectile dysfunction… Pharmaceutical companies in no way approve Saw Palmetto for anything, really, but herbal websites and such spread this about. It may work for hair loss, but do you really want to risk even greater results then Finasteride?
MSM (Methylsulonylmethane) - This does not effect DHT in ANY way, it is simply a vitamin supplement, oral form its sold for 30 or so bucks, 60 tablets. The supplement has been found to increase hair growth and length, possibly even thickness in a South Korean study pairing it with MAP and without. MSM, has an affect on hair loss, it won’t cure it for everyone, but if nutritional aspects are your problem this SHOULD cure your hair problem completely. Male Pattern Baldness, it should prolong the time you have with your hair.
These are side affects I’ve gleaned and found, know by general knowledge. Currently I am considering Nizoral… I don’t know if Keto can cause damage to libido or -“POSSIBLE”- damage to mental capacity as Finasteride can. I would like to hear any speculation on this…
This could be an important post in steering people away from orally subjecting themselves to Finasteride, which should be one of the objectives of this site!
Also the discussion of how Viagra or other ED medications are not a solution fo Fin should also be pointed out, as MANY websites sell Propecia and other Finasteride holding products with ED medications in the hope people will believe that these will help solve your problem.
Please give this a shot Mew!
