Alcohol - strange effects

I know alcohol is mentioned a lot on here but I would like to discuss my reactions to alcohol.

Tolerance? Same as always.
Effect? Shrinks my penis (girth) and my semen is always much more watery the next day. Always.

These effects have been consistent and unmistakable. I’ve never ignored it but ive glossed over it a little. Now id like to try use clear reaction to alcohol as as way to work out what is wrong with me.

What is it guys? :

  1. The hormonal shift?
  2. An immunity issue?

Something else? Somehow this affects my prostrate/seminal vessels (and probably testicles) , either directly or indirectly.

If i could work that out then perhaps it could give me a vital clue of exactly what’s wrong generally.

Thoughts?

I cannot drink anymore at all. On Thanksgiving, I thought “I have not drank in a long time, just one glass wont hurt”. Well, I had that one glass, and the brain fog and general bad feeling became so thick you could cut it with a knife. I have not drank since then.

For the people who get good feelings from it: didnt someone say it suppresses the immune system? Maybe our immune system is working to keep androgen levels way lowered and when we drink, that immune system “defense” is weakened and the androgens can sort of get through the barrier, so to speak. That is just a random thought, I am probably the last person who should be making opinions of the scientific stuff.

Personally, I do not drink anymore, and I do miss it really bad, but it just hurts me now.

I believe if someone was studying PFS on a scientific level, massive clues could be taken from how some of us respond to things like alcohol. If i could establish the exact mechanisms which exacerbate certain symptoms then that would be a great start.

alcohol and stessful situations kill me. Every subsequent crash I have had has been after drinking.

For me, and a number of guys I have seen post on here, after finasteride getting drunk is quite different. I will try to describe it.

I don’t get drunk in the same way when I consume a lot of alcohol. I feel different, not as euphoric, and no matter how much I do drink I never get “the spins”, if you’ve ever gone on a bender before finasteride you know what I mean by “the spins”.

Anyway, I have cut way way down on my drinking post finasteride, especially the last few months. Everytime I drank more then 3 or 4 drinks I would have incredible hangovers, in college before fina I remember drinking 12-18 drinks and waking up the next day feeling woozy and dehydrated but now its like I’m on my deathbed the whole day if I try that.

Also, and this really sucks, but ever since the fina if I drank a good amount of booze I tend to get nasty hemmroids the next day that take a week to go away. I attribute this to portal hypertension, caused by liver damage from finasteride. Never had it before fina, now all of a sudden, its an issue.

There seems to be a lot of variation in how PFSers respond to alcohol.

My own reaction to alcohol also changes over time. For a while I didn’t notice any effects from drinking (I didn’t push further than 5-6 drinks though), and other times I get really woozy after a single drink.

Guys - for me it can be positive or negative. I had some of my very best post-fin days AFTER too much alchohol. Could be the higher body termp/hangover state. Red wine seems best although I am a beer drinker. Usually try to stay away from too much but lately I have been drinking more - depression?

Same here. My first two decent recoveries were after high amounts of alcohol the night before. In the last 6-8 months however, alcohol has done nothing but make me feel terrible for days afterwards. Shaky hangovers that go on for 1-3 days just from 5+ beers  so i have given it up altogether.

I get terrible hangovers (even after a few drinks) and I get pain in my nipples every time im hungover.

I’ve been suffering from brain fog for over 4 yrs now (quit propecia 7-8 months ago), and it has hardly ever gotten better, only worse. I noticed that the times it got worse (and stayed taht way), were often related to alcohol use. I would feel great while drinking, but would then crash badly in the days after. I have now quit drinking entirely, although I probably should have before.

  • Does anyone have any idea of why alcohol makes it worse? Do you think it’s a neurological issue?
  • Do you think alcohol induced damage can be reversible?

I realize a lot of responses might only be guesses, but I’m sure a lot of you have experienced the same and maybe talked about this with specialists. Thanks

Mike

Hi,

I have had brain fog for over 4 yrs now, stopped propecia 8 months ago, didn’t make the connection before that. Pretty much all my crashes, when my brain fog each time got worse and stayed that way, have been linked to alcohol use. Felt great as I drank, but terrible in the days after.

Anyway, lately I have noticed that my brain fog has gotten worse also after a few days of flu (fever, sore throat, the works).

Have any of you noticed the same? Do you have any idea why this might be? Thanks
