Hello everyone, I would like to begin by saying I know this forum is not intended to help people such as myself, but I am in desperate need of advice from people who are knowledgeable about DHT and the possible dangers associated with altering its levels. I am 17 years old and experiencing premature MPB. I initially intended to take Propecia until I came across this site and learned about the serious side effects reducing DHT can inflict.
I understand that DHT plays many roles in the body besides just being the root cause of hair loss; however, I have not been able to find information about the side effects (if any) of preventing the synthesis of DHT from testosterone in only the scalp, blocking the androgen receptor site in the follicle, and converting some of the Testosterone in the scalp into an estrogen. I am on the verge of trying Topical Spironolactone, which claims to work by doing all of these things, but after reading sites such as this I am hesitant to try anything for fear of possible health risks.
Many people I have consulted on various hair loss forums contend it has no side effects because, as they claim, it does not affect the amount of DHT in the rest of your body, just the scalp, and is not “systematically absorbed”; however, these same people often say that Propecia is relatively safe. I worry this may have some of the side effects of Propecia or different ones just as serious. If anyone can direct me to or provide information regarding the effects of doing the things Topical Spiro claims it performs, I would be extremely grateful. Thank you for reading, and I apologize if I angered anyone by posting my question here.
