Abstinence?

Sorry if this has been discussed previously.

This might seem like an over simplification but i was wondering if anyone has had any positive long term effects from taking a period of abstaining from ejaculation in an attempt to help and restore normal levels of testosterone and other hormones?

at my peak being on this crap, I went through periods of no sex or ejaculation and didn’t help me one bit. Actually, if you do some research the having sex is supposed to raise Testosterone levels.

No, im not, but didn’t connect the dots until recently. i stupidly took the “any side effects subside immediately upon discontinuing use” as gospel and figured that anything in a 1mg dose can’t be that serious.

The weird thing is that over the past year i have made reasonable muscle gains in the gym and noticed that my facial hair has continued to thicken (i am now 24) which seems strange as i thought that these factors would be tied to the same hormone factors that control erectile function. is there any data or a thread on this?

Your story sounds very similar to mine, although instead of difficulty getting hard I have more difficulty staying hard for longer periods of time. And no, in my experience abstinence doesn’t really make any significant difference.

I also thought how much damage could this small pill do?, sides go away as Merck says; yea right.

As far as the muscle building thing and sex drive, I haven’t seen anything directly associated to it here. I will say I am a gym nut and always have been. A couple of years ago I had more quality muscle on my body than I do now; and looking back on it my sex drive wasn’t great during that period.

I would recommend you go to the main page of the website and click on the “new members start here” create a member story for yourself, that describes how long you took the drug, the sides you experienced and other details. It really helps everyone when you do that. We can better you with your problems. There is a ton of information on this site and a lot of knowlegable people that have made big improvements, but they need to know what problems you have.

I have the same question: Might prolonged abstinence from sex/masturbation be helpful? Could others chime in?

It depends on what you define helpful as. For me abstaining makes daily life easier. Over the long term I don’t believe abstinence will repair the damage caused by fin. However sexual activity has a direct negative effect on my day to day life so abstaining does improve it some. However the moment I have sexual contact all gains are destroyed and I’m back to square one or further behind.

This ties into our longer refractory periods. Abstaining doesn’t shorten the refractory period it just sometimes lets you build up longer (doesn’t always work). The sad part is I really dislike sex now so abstaining isn’t hard, it’s preferred.

Great question. Pre fin I used to study the “benefits of celibacy” and it was an interesting learning experience. I never followed through (not easy, obviously) but I’m well aware of the supposed benefits of abstaining short term and long term.

Anyway, when I started to experience dry orgasms, I thought I might abstain, let my body regenerate, and after a couple of weeks, the load would be markedly improved. It wasn’t!

So in my experience, I wouldn’t expect much from abstinence other than perhaps reducing your fatigue level (since ejaculation depletes alot of energy).

Yeah it has helped for me. It takes me about a week or two to go back to feeling more normal without any masturbating or sex. When I say “normal”, it’s like I don’t have brain fog and I might some random spontaneous erections here and there… but not much to go HORAY I AM NORMAL, but it is better than right after masturbating for sure.

I think if you find that your symptoms worsen with more ejaculation, you probably have issues with prolactin, there is a lot of debate about the effect of masturbation/sex on testosterone and estrogen etc. But what we know for sure is that ejaculation raises prolactin and prolactin inhibits testosterone.

That’s probably what I have then, ejaculation for me is the worst thing i can do.

I have gone like 28 days, maybe more, with out ejaculating. Actually my roommate and I made a bet on who could last longer with out ejaculating. I was kind of chuckling under my breath because I knew it would be no issue for me. I had no increase in desire or erection strength even after 4-5 weeks.

On the other had, after 12 days, my roommate said his back was hurting, he was going crazy, and it even got to a point where when he would piss he said some semen would come out. He barely lasted 2 weeks.

to be honest I didn’t masturbate for about 6 days this is 1 year ago and after that I had serious tissue change in penis and sac … I have to admit that I drank some booze in this time of abstinence . So for me it went worse . But I would say to masturbate every two days is ok but I wouldn’t wait much longer. this was about 2 years after my last pill of propecia
so for me there is a kind of downward spiral not a real crash except for the chest nipple pain and the pain in the testicles

Contrary to what I last posted…today I am on around 13 days no ejaculation. The last 3 nights I have been woken up with erections…not normal at all for me.

I think it’s something that changes over time. I went through periods of both ejaculating daily for a week… And once a week.

Since I started self prostate massaging, I seem to have improvement (going from say, 75% to 85%) with 5 ejacs a week. Better sensitivity, whiter/thicker semen, balls and sack seem fuller, erections good. The negatives may be less erections through the night and not really sure if this is a negative or positive, but, my flaccid penis is smaller/softer. I think my very slight twisted penis head is straightening out.

Had thought it was better to take supps, cialis, etc. to boost penis weight 24/7… now I’m not so sure.

I am afraid to self massage, because I am afraid that I will release any infections that may be pent up inside the prostate.

I just stick a well lubed prostate massager in their… No real pressing. I don’t even do much of the muscle contraction thing.

Taking a chance I’m not spreading anything nasty around.

I may or may not try this. I actually ordered a Aneros thingy, but am afraid to use it.

I really just need to man up, find a new doctor, and get my prostate checked.

I am on day 15 no ejaculation now. How fucking sad it is that when we were normal it was almost impossible to go 3 days without wanting to rape everything in sight and going insane?? But now I can easily go 2 months without ejaculating and not feel like sex at all.

I have had 5 straight nights where I wake up in the middle of the night with erections though. This def is not normal (post crash at least).

I think abstinence is worth doing just to see how long it takes you to get genuinely horny. Nocturnal and morning erection rate would be interesting to see to. I am fairly certain that there would be no lasting benefits from it though. I am going to try it for a while from today to see what nocturnals are like.
