A Testosterone level of 500 ng/dl = 40 yr old man

Following article talks about TRT and some risks… however, it was interesting to note the bit about Testosterone levels!

Unproven Elixir - Hormone therapy tempts aging men, but its risks haven’t yet been reckoned
sciencenews.org/articles/20030510/bob8.asp

… " Commonly cited thresholds for treatment are 200 and 300 nanograms per deciliter (ng/dl) of blood. In contrast, the typical blood-testosterone concentration for a 40-year-old man is about 500 ng/dl, according to some recent studies. "

One thing that is VERY misleading in that article, something that is always pushed at men is the idea that testosterone can cause prostate cancer. This has been very successful, even the guy at the end of the article with Klinefelters says that testosterone may one day kill him via prostate cancer but the benefits are worth the risk.

People continue to suffer from the propergation of this myth.

There is absolutely ZERO credible prove that testosterone increases the likelihood of developing prostate cancer, never mind causes a plague of deaths…

Testosterone can increase the rate at which pre existing prostate cancer can spread, but the operative words here are PRE EXISTING.

Also it has been argued that because men on testosterone replacement are regularly checked for prostate cancer via DRE and PSA test that such men are actually far more likely to discover the disease should it occur at a much earlier and treatable point.

It has been argued that testosterone replacement therapies regular testing regime means that it is almost impossible to develop and and die from undiagnosed prostate cancer- something that happens very easily to men no on TRT who develop the disease.

what do you think about their claim that 500ng/dl = 40 yr old man levels? Are they pretty much spot on?

ur not taking into context that the range is not even given! some ranges are 241-847 ng/dl…and some are 200-1100 ng/dl…and some are even different than that. also at what time is the 500 avg at? morning…night?

why get caught up on line to see if it’s ‘spot on’?

Very true Jack, thanks for reminding me.
